I admit this is hard to do, and I recently broke my own rule about this and was insulting to Viviane in another thread, and I feel badly about that.

I appreciate the sentiment, but it's really nothing to worry about, darling. I sometimes do it too, we all make mistakes! (on the cheek)

If people read insults into someone's tone, that's one thing, but there's no need to slap labels on someone like "ignorant" and "don't have a clue". Just explain what they're doing wrong, or if you're too frustrated, leave the conversation for a while.

There can be insults, to be sure, but to be ignorant on a subject is simply to not know. Sometimes that's the case. I am ignorant on the subject of early American literature. I am ignorant on architecture. I know very little on either subject, so it would just be embarassing for me to join topics on those subjects and start telling people that have studied it they were wrong. As long as we are simply ignorant on a subject and not something like an ignorant fool, it's just a fact, not an insult, no different than telling me how tall I am or am not.

true believers, whether christian, muslim or whatever, want to convert you, they want you to believe what they do, and they're willing to go to extremes to make it happen.

atheists don't really care what you believe, and don't go out of their way to convert someone.. http://ow.ly/vn1jz an example of what believers in power do to suppress any difference in thought.

Interesting thing I've noted, those most high on preaching love and getting along are often those that judge and accuse people the most. Perhaps I'll actually note all this down in a spreadsheet someday and make a chart...

The Governing Body told two Elders to call !!!!

a friend from the other end of the country just 'phoned and told me that a couple of days ago two elders knocked on his door.

he has been out for four or more years.. they told him it was c.o's visit, and the governing body have asked them to call on those whom they no longer see at the k.hall.. i guess this is an easier "field" than knocking on doors that never open, or where they are told "not interested".. my friend bill though, was not such an easy call.

apparently he managed to get in about 1914 being rubbish, the bible not being the word of god, because we cannot trust it, 1919 being rubbish as to the choosing of the fds and several other telling points.. i liked particularly that he said to them they were rather hypocritical asking householders to examine their faith, when jw's were simply not allowed to !.

I don't purport to say anything about fish evolving...I'm merely phrasing a question...which you did not answer....

It seems as if you think it's an "all fish or no fish" proposition. I want to understand why.

Once the change has occurred, the previous entity no longer exists.

Using that logic, you're a new species every time one of your cells divides imperfectly. Is that what you are suggesting?

Nature was never and will never be "Just IS".

I get that you are using hyperbole. No one called anyone an idiot. I also get that is NOT your point. It's about tone. Written word in email, IM and message boards are the worst for conveying tone, so it's best not to read tone into it. People keep doing that and they should stop. They should also not post on things they don't know much about, not ignorantly argue about subjects or misrepresent peoples words, tell people what their motives are, say something and then deny they said it.

All sorts of things happen on a message board. Reading tone into someone's post isn't one of them. I try not to do it, it also probably explains why my posts tend to be so flat sometimes, why people claim I am being obtuse. I am trying very hard to very clearly understand what people mean without making assumptions or assuming a certain tone to posts.
