I own that book. It's quite good, I agree.

The best book on biblical archaeology I've ever read
by marmot ini'm referring to "the bible unearthed : archaeology's new vision of ancient isreal and the origin of its sacred texts" by israel finkelstein and neil asher silberman.
i think it should be required reading for anyone who deigns to defend the historicity and literal interpretation of the bible.
(i'm looking at you singlecell).

Is there an ancient Christian creed that says credo in scripture?
by kepler inconsider the nicene creed.
does it mention bible?
it does say what a christian in a universal church of the roman empire should believe though.. one day i visited a service at a fundamental church and i noticed that a video display interjected the belief in holy scriptures into what otherwise looked to me like the credo i had learned in my own church.. the notion of a credo does not necessarily stay unaltered, i admit.

The LDS church has always taken it on the chin by the evangelicals because they say it “adds” to the Bible. Well, yes, it’s true we add scripture to the Bible, like the Book of Mormon, but the shock value lies in the fact that it’s so opposed to what people have been taught by the various professors of religion.
The LDS takes it on the chin because it's new, not because they are shocking. The LDS religion is just as idiotic, dumb and retarded as regular Christianity.

Viviane, I understand why you would think that so I won't bother to argue with you on this.
You know nothing about me. Stop being ignorant and pretending to know things you cannot possibly know.
Are you an atheist? I'm sorta in the middle between Theism and Atheism. I've talked to you before on my very first post that I made here. Hope you are doing well. You are a person with very few words but I appreciate your contribution to the threads here.
I am an atheist in the sense that I have no reason whatsoever to believe in any invisible spirit creature. No person worshipping any spirit creature has ever been able to reconcile known physics with the spirit world OR tell me what spirit even is.
Thanks for your words. I am doing quite well.

I am a very rational person and I know for an absolute fact God is real but so is satan.
You're neither rational nor describing absolute facts.

Viviane, what is the difference? I would guess that "Heirloom" means wild stock, and bloodlines, similar to heirloom vegetables. What would 'heritage' be? (T-day is not such a big thing in Canada, so I'm a bit confused by the terms).
I only discovered this existed right after American Thanksgiving. I've called 15 farms in the area (meaning a 2 hour driving radius) and they are all out. The only way I'll get one is if Santa is real and loves me. Otherwise, I will have to reserve one in August for next year. Specifically I want a free range heritage turkey. Everyting I read says they taste amazing, far better than the turkeys in grocery stores, especially if they are free range and brined.
So, what is heritage? I am lazy and cutting and pasting:
First of all, a quick lowdown on what heritage actually means: It does not mean organic, all natural, or free range, though a true heritage bird is probably all of those things. Heritage refers to 10 specific breeds of turkey (if you want to know what they are, click here). These breeds were raised in the U.S. prior to the 1950s, when the poultry industry began to genetically engineer (through cross breeding) the commodity, broad-breasted white turkeys most people eat today.

A heritage turkey, preferrably a Kentucky Bourbon Red. Not heirloom, heritage.

Are you an "out of the closet" atheist?
by rebel8 ini'm atheist and not ashamed of it.
however, it is so politically incorrect, especially where i live.
i have a legitimate concern that being out of the closet too much will hurt my career or neighborly relations--i know for a fact it probably would.. i'm really cautious about who i tell.. how about you?
-
Viviane
Absolutely. I don't go around talking about it, but I do live in a very religious part of America. Whenever anyone brings up spirituality and religion, I politely decline the conversation twice. If they persist a third time I engage with them and explain, politely, why I don't believe in invisible, undetectable creature made of unexplainable stuff or place my face in 2000 year old goat herder stories.

Funeral for an atheist
by Stealth in99% of all funerals that i have attended have been the wt version, where they preach about the resurrection into paradise and say little about the person who passed other than they were loyal to jah.
the other 1% catholic for grandparents.. now that i consider myself an atheist, i got to wondering what do atheists plan for when they die?.
if you are a non-believer what are your plans for when you die?
