Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses

allow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.

i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.

some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

my understanding was that this was an open forum where former as well as active Witnesses can share their views and engage in discussions. Instead, it appears that only one prevailing viewpoint is permitted here by mass default. Deviation from that viewpoint invites a barrage of antipathy.

Since you have not been banned, it would seem the issue is that you don't understand what's in bold above....

You preach what you know to be a lie. You are 100% complicit.

Any more than my being a tax-paying American citizen makes me complicit in the wrongful deaths of innocent thousands at the hands of the U.S. military over the past thirteen years; other similar examples abound.

You choose to remain part of and preach on behalf of a family destroying, pedophile protecting and family destroying organization even though you know better. It makes you very responsible.

And so I simply wanted to share my views on why I remain as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I did so rationally and respectfully. No agenda. Just . . . sharing.

You're evangelizing for a particular point of view, yours, and your secret JW-but-not-JW religion-within-a-religion you have going on.

At least be honest.

I don't understand the accusation, given that it's quite untrue. As it is, it seems I am being called a "troll" by some merely because I expressed a position that several don't like and don't agree with. I didn't make my post to cause a stir. I simply shared a viewpoint. Many may find that viewpoint unpopular, but that doesn't make the one who posts that unpopular viewpoint a "troll."

You posited a position that YOU don't agree with.

You claim to be a JW, which requires 100% agreement (at least publicly) with the GB, a position you disagree with.

You teach people the JW religion, yet discount it as false.

You proclaim faith in Jesus and to teach the truth, yet are actively involved in and claim to be a member of a religion that teaches the opposite of Jesus and obvious falsehoods.

What else are you but a troll?

what i was trying to write though was my thoughts and feelings which i hope don't offend anyone on this forum.

observing the lingo of atheists reveals the same kind of "absolute" commitment to Materialism - this is, unfortunately for religious people, totally in line with all available evidence. There is no evidence - repeat NO EVIDENCE - for a spirit realm or for "ghosts in the machine".
Atheists and scientists accept the existence of lions because of the evidence. They don't currently accept the existence of Bigfoot or God or the Flying Spaghetti Monster because there is no evidence for them.

Atheists simply share a lack of belief in spirits, spirit realms, God, gods, etc. That says nothing about materialism, evaluating evidence, bigfoot, lions or the FSM.

Yes Vivian I call him God you can call him creator or whoever but there is a lot of beauty to enjoy each day.

I don't call something like that anything. What does a god that causes the death of everything that ever lived have to do with beauty?

I would hope that each of us would set a little time aside to appreciate some of it. The beauty can be found in nature, in music, in poetry, in dance.

You're missing the point. You said we NEED to appreciate the beauty God gave us. What, functionally, is different from appreciating a sunset because we know scientifically how it works vs. appreciating it because you believe in God? What need is going unfulfilled in the former that's being met in the latter.

Look around Vivian, I think a lot of the ugly can be blamed on mankind.

That is an infant that was born with leukemia. If your god gets credit for healthy children, why doesn't he get credit for the second?

As far as blaming man, in the god scenario, we are god's children. You would not blame a child for accidentally pulling the trigger if a gun was left out, so why do you attempt to blame the children here? Why do you blame the victim? Why wouldn't you blame the really shitty parent that created all of these horrors?
