  Do You Think All JWs Believe Whatever Their Religion Teaches?

  that same question applies to catholics, jews, islamists, baptists and so on.

  just because you belong to a religion, does it mean you espouse every idea that they have ever presented?.

  Maybe the future of the religion is to change from an "intellectual" religion to a faith based religion (faith in the worst sense of the word). In other words, they don't even try to give convincing evidence to back up beliefs; just accept what the wiser Big Brother says.

  It wasn't always like that. When I grew up in the 50s' amd 60s' we were given intellectual reasons (however specious) to have an intellectual framework for our belief system. Someone mentioned a change for people under and over 60. Perhaps that trend will grow as the old-timers die out; and the GB become more cynical, as I think they'll have to, to keep their position. Just believe, they'll say. Their private thoughts will be: "after us the deluge". That can work for them until they're buried in the graveyard with Rutherford.

  Why are alot of JW's Fascinated with Sci-Fi?

  i am still in & gradually fading.

  i have always wondered why alot of jw's that i know are really into alot of sci-fi stuff like star wars, i robot, x-men stuff etc.

  i mean they take it another level with this fantasy stuff.

  I think the bottom line reason is that it takes away from the drum beat of Watchtower activity and consciousness. Don't forget: Jehovah is a jealous God.

  i was watching a couple videos on youtube earlier and always like to peruse the comments at the bottom of the page.. i'm no sure if this has been discussed recently, but one indivdual made the claim that the societies numbers are massively over inflated, as he/she believes that they include inactive, df'd and da'd in their figures.. does anyone have any information to confirm this or i this just another assumption made without evidence?.

  (also has anyone heard from witnessmyfury lately?

  i had a pm chat with him a few days ago but not had a reply to my latest msgs.

  Probably very few are brought in by door to door activity, and the governing body knows it. It's just a way to justify the big money and power from the publishing and printing. After all, what would it be without that, just a hollow group of eccentrics without any power or money, and would soon be forgotten.

  i'm just rereading crisis of conscience and was thinking if only there were others on the gb like him.

  maybe things could change for the better.

  for instance when he felt troubled that a woman couldn't get a divorce when her husband cheated on her with another man.. his response was this:-"the emotional upset i felt moved me to make a study of the original language terms (in greek) used in matthew, chapter nineteen, verse 9.".

  What if there were two "Rutherfords" in the GB. Two very vain men who didn't want to share power with anyone. There was a ruthless struggle for power. One of them saw he was losing. The loser saw , that as the loser, he was likely to be thrown out to the dirty streets of Brooklyn, so he decided to go "nuclear". He goes to the newpapers. The dirty linen becomes public. Divisions occur, even among the Witnesses. Unlike in 1918. the power was so evenly balanced, no side could win a clear victory; things begin to come apart. The center cannot hold. It wouldn't require any good honest men to do this. In the King Lear Play by Shakespeare, the two bad daughters who stole the Kingdom turned on one another and brought the whole realm down to ruin.

  Nye made good solid points to refute Ham's arguements.

  But everyone has part of the truth if you look deep enough.

  Frankly I'm suspicious of those that merely engage in name-calling. "People that believe as Ham are merely ignorant country bumpkins". Well... they're also human beings.

  In past centuries the God/Religious World View was dominant and often abused it's power. Today the materialistic/scientific/technology World View holds sway, and sometimes in it's representives have a Pharisee-like contempt for faith-based beliefs of powerless, uneducated people.

  Don't just get stuck on the side points of things that seem to most of us to seem absurd: "six literal days". Perhaps the larger point from Ham is that their is a Spiritual World that encompasses the material world, one created by God. Science can only study the material. The metaphysical is deeper. Ham has delusions like all of us; but none of us have the whole truth.
