I admit it, I believe in evolution.
by Louise inafter leaving the dub religion behind, i read everything that i could get my hands on, be it about other religions, beliefs, gods, occult, evolution - you name it - i read it.
i did this to 'catch up' and to educate myself, so that when i can to a decision it would be an intellectual / educational one.
not just because some book or person told me to believe it.. i have over time and with reading aids come to totally believe and accept evolution.

Hi louise...you set a good example of how to benefit from sound evidence as opposed to the crutch of superstition under the guise of blind faith... well done !! -

Supernatural Tony......the 3rd
by snare&racket ini realised something today.... we all happily accepted something really ridiculous.....something that if worded how i will word it now, we would have rejected as ridiculous, but after a moments thought, would have to concede.. we once followed the governing body because we believed they had supernatural powers.
how ridiculous you may say, no we didn't!
of or relating to things that cannot be explained according to natural laws.

If any jw thinks that the gb aka fds parable snatchers come up with nooo light by just having a pow wow they are even more easily duped than I thought, is it not because they claim ' spirit guidance' that they buy into it..? Otherwise it's all just the interpretation and mere words of men.. which is exactly what it is !!! Why would they put their trust in these charlatans without believing they have the supernatural sanction from God's influence ? -

Welcome mr theo'..Interesting post and observations. My open question would be ..given that many jws are now seeing that nooo light is no more than the latest prop after many pit collapses but continuing to ' ride the wave ' , what is the point of the organisation given that many ex jw family members who have learned ttatt still suffer because of those who just remain within because they think it's a respectable way of life. Surely thats a contradictory position ? -

Do JW Children Still Call Adults "Aunt" and "Uncle"?
by cofty inwhen i was young we were taught to refer to other adult jws as aunt or uncle.. was this also the case in other countries and does it still happen?.
was it just a custom or has the literature ever commented on it?.
thanks.

As a child in Scotland it was common to refer to close friends of parents as aunt/uncle, this continued after association within jws but only within the ' clique ' of those who were friends of my parents. Those jws who were of a different clique ( class or status ) were referred to quite deliberately as brother /sister. -

What are the Witnesses Afraid Of ?
by Sour Grapes inif the witnesses have the truth and have been going to meetings for many years and every week they learn how to be effective in the ministry and learn about the bible on sundays and every week have a family worship night, why are they afraid to talk to anyone who doesn't agree with them or question their beliefs?
if they have the truth then nothing can refute it.
the truth is the truth.

Sadly their ' truth ' is their imposed organisational influenced truth which even if it is driven by an impossible delusive dream allows them the comfort that they are part of the mother hive where the queen bee calls the shots.
ANY action which can obliterate the ' queen bee ' should be encouraged.

Pick your belief system
by Giordano ini think we've all noticed a ton of newbe's these past months.
one part of escaping or thinking about escaping the jw's is coming to terms with what you believe now and/or what direction you are leaning towards.. here is a site that has a quick quiz that may be of some worth or just for fun.
i took it when i first signed on here and the results surprised me because it was pretty accurate.. you don't have to sign up for anything and when you finish you will get a percentage answer on 20 major belief systems.

Anyone or group or organisation who preaches that there are.. supernatural beings judging us and require obeisance. ..that there is a devil influencing our human affairs...that human beings after death can be transported to another realm ( of unknown origin )...that human beings can live forever (as a reward for adhering to interpreted myth by some guys from New York under the guise of being chosen by way of an ancient parable )... that some ancient bloke brought someone back from death, changed water into wine , fed thousands of people using a few loaves and fish ,a snake was able to speak, stopped the flow of a major river and and so on and so forth.....is not extreme but extremely sensible ....NOT !!!!!!

Let it begin....
by snare&racket inabout time..... "teachers, councillors and social workers in england and wales who fail to protect children could face up to five years in jail under new proposals.. the new measures, being unveiled by the prime minister, would see the crime of "wilful neglect" extended to cover children's social care and education.. there would also be unlimited fines for individuals and organisations shown to have let children down.".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31691061.
when they so cleverly predicted to us all that the world would turn against them, something that has not happened despite over a 100 years of taunting power and opposing religious figures, now it is likely to begin, they failed to mention that it would be due to rampant paedophilia in 'gods earthly organisation'.what a wholesome enviroment to grow up in and raise a child.. we have heard it said many times here that the jw's won't last as they are so entrenched in trends, so opposite to modern human progress, culture and society, they stand out as more extremist and inhumane by the year, mocked regularly in the media now.

The legislators in the uk must be held to account by the democratic will of the people to whom they are bound to provide justice and security.
If they do not include religious organisations in the latest proposal they will be failing in their duty of legal protection for the innocent and conviction of the guilty.....Who would disagree.
Religious or organisational rules which conflict with the democratic law of the land inc' sharia should be exposed and dealt with severely.

What's the mechanism?
by Half banana ini am perpetually challenged by the fact that most jws are completely duped by the propaganda pumped out relentlessly by the borg.
even intelligent ones; they unwittingly grovel to the gb decisions and follow the party line.
they do this for a number of reasons..

Possibly we'll have to wait for neuroscience to come up with the evidential answer, it's all to do with our brains. There is somehow a need to rely on something out with our own workings to take the burden of what's perceived to be the unknown. Many many people succumb to their own idea of a comfort zone , and because they are so convinced will seek to convince others, and so it goes on and on. This process seems to allow for delusion to the point where very intelligent people can be so ingrained that the utterly ridiculous and craziest of notions will be believed as truth to keep them in their comfort zone.
The frustration is, that if you are fortunate enough to escape the madness trying to understand why others don't see it is utterly perplexing.
