Best Argument for Atheism - In your view.
by LAWHFol inif crisis of conscience is one of the top watchtower doctrine killers, what is the coc of theism?.
i'd like to read a book, or other material that does the best job logically arguing for atheism.. i've not read any darwin, however it is my assumption that his focus is primarily on evolution, is this correct?
if you were to recommend one book or a few pieces of reading material, which do the best job of defending atheism, what would they be?.

The courtroom drama differs from that of evidence for the existence of god in that the jury ie us start with an actual defendant and subsequently consider the pros and cons of the evidence of the alleged actions (crime ) of the defendant. Those interested in the existence of god have no actuality or proven defendant ie ' god ' from which to even consider evidence. Therefore no defendant no need for evidence for jury to consider...it's a non starter. -

The best argument for atheism is the theistic premise itself. No one could have asserted ' there is no god ' unless the assumption that such an entity was an actuality, therefore the burden must fall on the creators of this human idea to furnish proof. In ancient times myth and mysticism abounded due to lack of knowledge or evidential understanding, its not hard to understand that it was easy to be duped or convinced of the supernatural reason for the unexplainable due to ignorance. Athiests of contemporary times would in all probability have believed in some form of god had they lived then. To believe in god today is really to agree with and cede to the influence and reasoning of these ancients, so be it if you are content with that but you only fool yourself if you think it is otherwise. the athiest on the other hand has nothing to prove, how is it even possible to prove the actuality of something dreamed up in the ancient brain for reasons lost to us apart from some human devised ancient writings, we might as well try and prove any form foreign to our physical state as existing just because we dreamed it up. The idea of god is no different. I could envisage a tree and say it exists in actuality, yes the image in my mind does indeed exist but the actuality only exists once proven by evidence. The same applies to the god of the mind which does exist there, but proving the actual existence by irrefutable evidence is the only way by which any person of sound education and reasoning should accept the ancient concept as true. -

How many of you think.......
by punkofnice in..that the governing body are only in it for money and power?.
how many of you think the gb are all/some are sincere?.
okay, i know this has been asked before but i can't find the thread and there are newbies here.....and i like the sound of my own voice.

Hi punk.. Yes indeed they require influence to maintain a 'faux 'credibility among the rank and file and are very open( paradoxically ) in their closed ranks to any ' new light ' offering which gains them favour. The undeniable altering of doctrine and precedents of errors makes them completely unreliable ie corrupt and guilty as charged. Well said !!
Best wishes .

WHY DO ONLY A FEW START TO QUESTION DOCTRINE CHANGES AND NOT EVERYONE?
by disillusioned 2 inthere are many on here who state specific changes in wt publications have caused them to start questioning (understandably you would think), and yet the majority don't.
why is it only a few individuals that do this?
curious as to what others think about this.

Unfortunately there are none so blind as those who will not see. Being involved in a religion where to reason for oneself is seen as lessening the authority of those on high ( the governing body ) can cause a state of mind known as cognitive dissonance, resulting in a submission to any new directive by the gb via their publications, even if what is known as ' new light ' contradicts previous teachings which is a common trait of the jw organisation.
Most if not all who participate on this forum are well versed in your quandary. We all hope more will awaken from this mindsnare.
Best wishes.

Revised New World Translation
by FusionTheism ini just wanted to put it out there that i am actually truly impressed by the revised nwt.
i think it's an awesome bible version.. the only issues i have are that it should only have "jehovah" in the new testament when quoting the old, and the alternate translation of john 1:1 in the footnote should be in the main text..

Watchtower Society and Science
by FusionTheism inis the governing body's methods and practices all that much different from the way scientists work?.
some prominent scientists and big media in the 1970's were pushing imminent disaster from global cooling.
now its global warming and they all sweep the global cooling fiasco under the rug and act like it was just one or two rogue individuals.. other examples can be given: scientists being wrong on the eternal universe, black holes, whether eggs or coffee are healthy or harmful, presenting fake fossils, etc.

We'll said fusion theism, from now on I'll follow the guidance of the governing body after all they have Jehovah's spirit guiding their humanistic failings...how patient Jehovah is to wait until they get something right, after all our very salvation depends on the proper food!...oops is that not just a parable after more noooo light? After all what has science done for us.
Apologists would do well to reason before making absurd comparisons!!

THIS IS WHAT WITNESSING HAS BEEN REDUCED TO IN 2015
by steve2 inthreads on the newer jw face of public "witnessing" have shared in common the astonishment that jws safely park themselves behind their literature trolleys and exercise incredibly little contact with passersby.
whether the poster is talking about europe or the united states or australia, descriptions here are the same.. literature stands are protective sheilds behind which jws huddle, talking to each other, sipping on their espressos, whilst the disinterested world passes by.
neither the jws nor the passersby catch each others eyes.

Whilst visiting a Scottish coastal town where the large cunard cruise liner Queen Mary 2 was berthed, I came upon 2 older sisters standing like forlorn gate posts each side of 2 trolleys/ carts their demeanour was in no way encouraging to any passer by and in fact where they had set up was on a damp pathway which saw little sunlight. The main footfall to and from the docks to the town was very obviously on their opposite side and used by most if not all passengers and locals/visitors alike. Now normally I would stop and say hi,and pose a question , on this occasion however the ship and general buzz in the town was more interesting. I couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness that their thoughts of those who were enjoying the occasion and socialising with happy smiles and laughter was that we're all under satans control and doomed by not being part of their miserable lot. -

New Watchtower-- the End is coming in our lifetime again now??
by FusionTheism inthey just posted the simplified august study watchtower on jw.org.. paragraph 11 of the "expectation!
" article says this:.
"so even if we feel that we have been waiting a long time, this does not mean that the end is far away or that it is not coming in our lifetime.".
