  WHEN people leave a cult...MAN landed on the moon? Or critical thinking......

  i believe anyone who has voluntarily left a cult has shown they can adapt to new solutions, and have used " critical thinking" skills otherwise most would not have left.. yet i believe a safe place for support is still needed and this safe place i believe is searched for.. now i may not measure up to much in ways of education, but for me personally " critical thinking skills" = " new" a " new" way of thinking, that takes time for me the individual to be visual and to contemplate.

  and the more i read about " critical thinking," the more convinced i am that i can live with the ridicule of those that claim i do not possess it.

  furthermore i would say those that criticise others " critical thinking skills," often luck the sensibility and thoughts to snore, spit, and fart....nor would they understand a room full of tobacco smoke and cheap booze...where " critical thinking " can often be found in its most profound, in the most sensitive poems and "pictures" that were ever drawn.

  I think we are beginning to have an understanding. Isn't the world just beautiful?

  I do mean exactly what OprhanCrow points out and that is why I say that Viviane's statement is correct but misses the part where we insert our humanity. Our relationships and our feeling towards others. I can not say that her meals are any more or less special that my mom's (although my mom wasn't the best cook). Even when my wife is a great cook, her raising the bar high from the perspective of taste does not render my moms meals any less special or at any level bellow those of my wife. Fortunately for me, neither one of them has attempted to have me tell who cooks better :)

  How to evade questions from elders when you stop going out door to door

  due to circumstances right now i cannot leave permanently the watchtower, however i need honest advice of what to say when elders question me how come im not meeting the group out for door to door & going out in " field service"... what would be proper responses not to draw suspicions since i'm aware of ttatt.. .any serious advice please...

  Haven't they say many times already that their buildings will survive?

  In my personal experience, although short for now, telling them that the matter is private and personal could lead to more inquiries in some cases but is not a bad idea. Sometimes they will remind you that you can have privacy with them as if you were speaking to God directly. Whatever you decide to say, playing a game of confusion would always work best. Keep them guessing. The more theories they have the better. If they insist to meet with you, see if you can find a way to meet with different elders at different times. Make sure you don't re use your excuses. Tell different people different things, especially if you know they will be discussing them with one another.

  This game of confusion has managed to keep the UFO theories alive and well without ever reaching anything conclusive. Could well work here.

  you know, we have been married for ~27 years....most of which we had nothing to do with the piece of shite cult.

  What is your therapist telling you? I remember going to one when I was a child. My mom put us there at a young age because they were going thru divorce and she just needed reassurance that we were going to be ok. I later listened to the therapist as he explained that seldomly can one person get help in isolation. Usually the best counsel comes from working with your entire social environment. Not always possible, I know. Two things I believe you can do here

  - If she is fully convinced you are the one with the problem, then somewhat admit it. Tell her that your therapist told you that unless she participates, there is no solution for you. This in fact is not inaccurate. Many therapists believe that in cases such as yours, there is little to no result working on one mate only. She should feel that she is there to assist the therapist, not to seek assistance for herself.

  - Do some research. I believe it won't be difficult to find WT material that shows her that she is wrong from thinking she has no problem.

  Saying that translations are not inspired and therefore implying that mistranslations are acceptable, is taking away credit from God. Look up the definition of inspiration under jw-org. This would not be the only place where you would find the contradictions. Many times before it has been studied that God would have to make sure the bible message gets to us unblemished. It is only logical. It would be ok in my view to say that the words may not be exact but the core idea is. The problem is that often times entire studies are dedicated to a single bible verse and sometimes entire magazine paragraphs dedicated to analyze a single word from the verse. When you do that, you can not be too careful as to question the translation of a single word.
