When they tell you that you can control your homosexual urges and thoughts, tell them they can also control their urge to judge and feel self righteous and they choose not to

Jehovah's Witnesses post 'anti-gay' 'Harness Your Habits' leaflet in North Devon
by OrphanCrow injehovah's witnesses post 'anti-gay' 'harness your habits' leaflet in north devon.
devon and cornwall police have said a leaflet posted through doors in north devon isn't a crime – despite it advising gay people to "control their urges".the leaflet, entitled "how to harness your habits", was distributed in north devon by jehovah's witnesses and contains an article asking "what does the bible say about homosexuality?
"in it, the religious group states that "rejecting homosexuality" is completely different to "rejecting people of a different skin colour" and says their views are the same as people who "view smoking as harmful and even repugnant".it also compares gay people to animals, but says "unlike animals, they can choose not to act on their impulses".the journal was contacted by a reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, who felt "belittled" by the leaflet.

Being Hispanic myself and having my wive's very large Mexican family so close by, I can tell you the reason they don't strike is a bit of every line bellow
- A group of them are more concerned with getting their work done and getting paid. They work so much, they do not have time to think about striking. Watch the movie "McFarland USA". There is lots of true life scenes in that movie.
- A group of them are concerned that an unsuccessful strike may lead to a mass deportation, started by each employer, of those who joined in. Coming back is always an option but in the days of Cesar Chavez, it was easier to come back. Today the violence in the border makes crossing it a dangerous feat. Once you are here, you don't want to go back and risk it again.
- A group, or most of them, are not educated enough to care about politics and economics. If they would truly understand the role they play in this economy, they would definitely understand the power that they hold. While they don't, they have no driving force to demand anything
- All of them, believe it or not, understand that they are here illegally. They are honest, respectful people and they understand that striking and causing a disturb will simply add to their already troubled life. Hispanics are thought and brought up to acknowledge that they need to earn their living thru respect and hard work. Ask any youngster that is here illegally what their grandmother would say if she knew they started a strike or a riot and see how much they concern themselves with family values.
I live no more than 2 miles from the Rio Grande. I had illegal immigrants chased and cuffed in my very own backyard. Literally, inside my fence posts. My wife also has several relatives that are here illegally and they are the hardest working people I know. I do agree that a mass strike would definitely cause economic havoc

Witnessing by Text Message
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering if anyone had ever heard of the jws texting random numbers to "send their message".
do they do this at all?
and is it a common practice?.

Witnessing electronically is the new form of preaching. While I have not heard or seen an official category for "text witnessing", they do have a section in the new FS report for electronic publications. I've also heard letters read where they indicated how to count magazine or video that were shown thru email or text message
The only thing they do suggest is to refrain from preaching electronically to people in other parts of the world.

For those who are not attending meetings anymore... Yes, there heavy video usage during the midweek meeting. There is almost zero participation from the brothers and sisters that used to show how to introduce the watchtower and awake magazines. They now show a video where the participants are nothing but black shadows. This allows them to use the same video for all languages but there is definitely no personal connection to the video.
Our KH spent money on a projector and screen in preparation for Morris' tight pants rant and not 6 months later it was replaced by two TVs

Are you sad or angry?
by raven inafter exiting the org, i mean cult, how have each of you felt personally about the lies you had been taught, the hurt from feeling betrayed by these people, actual hopes of once believed false teachings, rose colored lenses of seemingly just and right doctrines that turned out to be a bunch of horse $#!+, the shunning of family and friends?
right now i am going through the motions, i've just moved to a new home, which means hopefully no more elders searching for me at my previous address.. i can't help but feel sad though right now because of the fact that although i am not df'd ( maybe the elders will do it in absentia assuming i've been avoiding them and the 2 jc's they've invited me to as well as the last handwritten letter at my door before i moved ) my mom treats me as though i am dead to her, she says " i am living the life of a disfellowshipped person, and until i come back to jehovah this is how things will be because this was my choice to leave jehovah " ok i get it, but i don't- everyone has free will, so yes this was my choice but it is also her choice to shun me, especially after the "shun unrepentant wrongdoers" talk at the rc, funny how they come out with these talks to reel members back in.. she claims that she has an obligation to jehovah of which she promised to him after she was baptized not at 11, 13, or 17 ( young ages ) but fricken 26 years old.
i absolutely hate this organization and everything that it is, it's taken away my family and most importantly my own mother.. i always thought that a mothers love was to be unconditional, but hers for me is only conditional.

I was, I am and I will always be angry. Not necesarily revenge angry but angry none the less. I am the type of person that gives himself humbly and fully when I believe in a cause. So it's hard for me when I feel my commitment has been abused.
When I was 18, I committed to start a club with some friends. It was a bike and kart racing club. We were teenagers. An older man trusted us enough to commit to a local club that we would do all the labor to build a race track. We came thru. We spent the next two years, all weekends working on this. It was one of the greatest achievements of our poor, third world country life. The nice thing is, it was very clear no one was above anyone else. No one got paid and no one felt used. It was all for our fun and we all had the same level of access. No reservations for VIP or special guests or anything that would make you feel like your work was being advantageous for someone else.

[Generic evolution vs. creation thread]
by sir82 into save us all a lot of time and effort..... [some complex structure in living organisms described].

[I've read a book written to refute evolution]
[It is full of quotes from scientists who point out inconsistencies in some aspects of the theory]So you read a commentary. It is like saying you know the bible because you read every article of the Watchtower, which is full of hand picked bible verses.

One of those defining moments
by Chook in2 years ago i'm at po house for bbq, his wife tells me about her hectic drive to work for one hour.
i suggest car pooling from other women who work in same area, she goes on to explain that having to spend 1 hour each way with worldy women would affect her spirituality.
there it is in its finest definition of christian loyalty .

The irony would have come if, having refused to spend time in a car with a worldly person, she would have been caught having sex in a car during FS with another brother.

Evolution is difficult to accept if you imagine it being like this..
An animal transforming into another like it would in a fantasy movie.
Read a book on the subject itself. Do not read a book that is a scientific commentary or the opinions of a scientist.

How do we know JWs are wrong and how do we convince others JWs are wrong: logic versus persuasion
by slimboyfat inwe like to think we are logical and have good reasons for for our beliefs.
no more so than when it comes to our reasons for rejecting the truth claims of jws.
we reject their version of history, such as the date of the fall of jerusalem, because it doesn't agree with the historical evidence.

I remember when John Kerry was running for president. He sealed his faith when he told a group of college students that it was good for them to get a degree... or else they would end up in Iraq. He had a huge backslash for that. Soldiers were posting pictures with misspelled signs as a sarcastic way of getting their responses across.
In my view, Kerry had the right thought, but communicating it was a whole other ball game. Won't want to start yet another branched discussion under this OP but the main point is that sometimes is difficult to communicate the right things to people and much more specially when the listener is not ready or willing to discuss something that in their mind is already set in stone. I am not genius at this either. It is certainly a form of art.
While I am going to stop far from affirming that this is cofty's case (I agree that no one know him better than himself), it is not illogical to think that the influences in our live's can be pervasive, yet subtle enough that we won't notice them. I heard of many stories of JW who wake up once they begin to read the bible without the influence of the WT. They were seeking truth in the bible. Therefore, it is to be implied that the individual first accepts bible as the truth and begins to question his body of belief under the influence of the bible. This is because we were led to believe that regardless of our religion, the bible is the fundamental truth that leads to faith. I believe that this is why you see so many cases of people who upon leaving the JW, either go back to their original religions or have an eventual second awakening where they stop believing altogether.
I think that the ultimate reason for leaving our faith (in this case the JW) can most likely be found on the traits of our current life. This is what, most likely, we were seeking all along. How we got there is a process and is hardly ever easy to say what may have influenced us to get there or to even begin the process. We may also discover, during that process, that what we think led us to today, it was just a spark that lit a much bigger fire.

Latest Metal Detecting Find
by cofty innow the harvest is underway up north i can get out for a walk with the metal detector in the evening.
i am lucky to live on a historic rural estate and i have permission from the landowner to detect.. this is a coin that popped up last night.
it was only about 2 inches deep and had been tumbling around in the plough soil for the last 750 years.. it is a silver penny of king henry iii.

They say there is a lot of gold to be found in and/or around the Queen Isabella Causeway here in South Texas. But it is also known you can not keep what you found. Not worth the time.
My wife loves the metal detector I gave her for her B-day. We've only found pennies and beer can tabs. The biggest find so far, believe it or not, was a small bbq grill on buried on the beach (About 10 in in diameter)
