I believed you had already answered your own question. Survivor, victim... I personally don't believe you can choose. You have to be a victim in order to be a survivor.

Are we victims of abuse? Should we even think of ourselves that way?
by nicolaou inabuse is such a serious word and i'd hate to use it lightly so if anyone reading this has suffered physical or sexual abuse please know that i absolutely do not equate religious abuse with your suffering.
that being said, many of us were lied to and manipulated for decades.
this cultic 'abuse' has borne fruit in shattered relationships, broken families and estranged children.

Why people join cults
“Cults form and thrive,” says Deikman, “not because people are crazy, but because they have two kinds of wishes. They want a meaningful life, to serve God or humanity; and they want to be taken care of, to feel protected and secure, to find a home. The first motives may be laudable and constructive, but the latter exert a corrupting effect, enabling cult leaders to elicit behaviour directly opposite to the idealistic vision with which members entered the group.
But cults, because they only serve the leader, exploit and pervert that useful habit and, to establish and maintain itself, does everything possible to destroy family ties, and any other secure and conventional anchor in a person's life. This has the effect of strengthening a member's bond with the cult and its leader. From this viewpoint, the cults that promote celibacy and the cults that encourage indulgence in sexual promiscuity are seeking the same ends — the destruction of normal family life and the substitution of dependence on the cult group authority. Although ordinary institutions in our society do not yet directly seek to destroy family ties, 'nanny state' interference may be having a similar effect. This is so true. This is why you should make an effort to be that protector. Forcing her to question her belief is not going to portrait you as the protector. You are an advantage point if your kids are with you. It is hard to stand watch and do nothing while they rape her brain silly with impunity. But this is the only approach that works. I did not want to believe it myself at the beginning and it was worst for me because my kids are small and they do not know any better. You have your kids on your side. That is pretty powerful.
Give her the freedom she craves. They won't.. guaranteed. And the day that becomes evident, she will be as mad with them as she is with you now... But when that day comes, she will weight everything and you need to make sure that day she will put you in the right side of the scale. If you keep up the pressure, she will throw you in the same plate as the watchtower.

Not sure if the kid was under actual "pressure" per se. But I do remember a few stories. He goes to the same class as my daughter and they had a birthday in the class once. The kid gave in and ate cake. Later we found out that he got home crying. His dad, bless his heart as he is a really nice guy, told him he just needed to pray for forgiveness and move on. Yet, he never really told him that it was normal for a child to try and do child things, which includes eating cake without feeling guilty.
As far as the assembly place, it is not rented. Is a fairly new (less than 10 years old) hall built for 5 million and already paid for.

Elders preparing for the GT?
by StarTrekAngel ini know this conversation has come up in other threads.
it is just funny that last night i received this message on my phone.
could this be elders feeling that they need to prepare and find a way to reach all brothers as quickly as possible in preparation for something?

I know this conversation has come up in other threads. It is just funny that last night I received this message on my phone. Could this be elders feeling that they need to prepare and find a way to reach all brothers as quickly as possible in preparation for something? I would not risk to say "I know so" but sure as hell this is new. Knowing the elders in my congo well, I wonder how many hoops has this poor soul had to jump in order to make sure he did not stumble his fellow elders. Most of them are anti technology.
May be it is just that the CO visit is coming up and he may ask what steps have been taken to contact people en case of an emergency.
Translation: This group was formed with the purpose of giving announcements about the congregation. Please do not answer the messages. They are just for your information.
As you can see, people can not follow simple instructions. Later down the chat, he actually had to ask people to please quit responding.

Interfaith relations
by StarTrekAngel inso as i recall from my years of bible studies and countless meetings, jws teach that jehovah does not accept interfaith relationships.
the idea of sharing on a prayer for world peace with other religions, as i was told, was not acceptable in the eyes of jehovah.
now i am not here to say that now they are sharing in the way above mentioned, but certainly it seems like the wt has no issues in sharing their propaganda along with other religions and under the "pretense" that they mingle with the other religions of babylon the great.

I don't know if I missed some new light, since I am missing some meetings, but I found this compelling
The following event is sponsored by UNESCO

Most interesting to me what the name of Shawn Schafer at the end of one of the letters. (Wonder if he is related to David Schaffer). Another somewhat relevant piece is in the FAQ, where it states that 95.5% of all KH in the US branch territory are titled to the local congregation.
Also, the sample survey form has been edited to cover up private information but I know the area. That particular form was for a congregation for a very small town in Texas. It is kind of difficult for me to comprehend how they would need a new KH and who they are going to sell the old one to.
