It's a free country, you're free to leave a religion, and their own website CLAIMS that people can leave at any time.
I mean, it's not a cult, now, is it?
Anything a cult puts in claim, like the one you mentioned above is to be taken in context with the belief. Is like the following statement coming from an alcoholic...
"I won't drink anymore.... or any less, just the same"
In the case of the cults, the second part of the phrases are always omitted. The statement is not untruthful, is just incomplete. This way, outsiders and insiders can read it and accept it as truth but interpret it their own ways and both can be happy with what they read. Here is what I believe to be a few other incomplete assertions from the WT. Many of which, I believe, are grossly ignored or remain unmentioned, even by strong opposers of this cult. The part between parenthesis are the parts that are left out to interpretation or belief.
- Abuse victims have a right to go to the authorities (but we have a right to DF you for doing so if you have no second witness)
- Blood, beards, attire, entertainment choices are a matter of consciousness (The GB consciousness that is)
- WT never claimed that non-JW will be killed during Armageddon (we just stated that they still have a chance to become one. No one has to die over this, if they do what we say)
- We don't make collections! (That's right! we don't pass a contribution plate, we make YOU go to the plate, the one towards the entrance of the KH. That is the way to show submission! Bringing the plate to you would be spoiling you!)
- We definitely do charitable work! (but we are firm believers that charity starts at home!)
