  Did your congregation ever throw special parties exclusively for Pioneers?

  i'm trying to remember if these parties were a direct instruction from hq or if this was something on a local level.. i remember i attended at least 2 of these parties and we also would bring them gifts.

  i saw them no different than a bday party (elevating someone to idolatry level).. if anyone else remembers these parties please let me know.

  if there's a letter out there somewhere from hq that would be even better.

  Convention 2019: Children told don't form emotional attachment to pets!

  i have just heard from a visitor to the jehovah's witnesses convention for 2019, that they have been told; 'not to form an emotional attachment to their pets, as animals don't have feelings anyway'.. well, that should break a few children hearts!👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 🥴 😭 💔.

  Sorry kids... no more ice cream and now no more pets. Mom and dad are increasingly spending money on their health and organic food. If you can't have a cheap ice cream, much less an expensive pet. The org needs money more than ever. Mr Morris can't handle the stress and needs a drink.

  notice how the wts dances around the question below and then my comments about that and whether historically did the wts see isaiah as applying to all jws or only anointed members, spiritual israel (galatians 6:16)?.

  This is a very interesting collection of paragraphs and a subject that it is counted among the many other (But one of the strongest) that drove out of this cult.

  This could also build a very strong case against the whole 1914 teaching. Once you fully grasp the idea that witnessing means exactly that (telling about something you saw), then there is no room for overlapping generations. Understanding the concept of witnessing means the "the generation that will never die" had to had witnessed the presence of christ, even if it was not visible. The generation after them can not be counted as witnesses. They simply were not there to see it happen. Therefore, if the first generation that did witness the event, died off, then your prophecy is bullshit, dear WT.

  Therefore, it was ok for Israelites to be called Witnesses of Jehovah. They saw what God did in the dessert and Egypt. Once too much time passed, the newer generations had not seen any of it. When Jesus came to earth, then that generation can be witnesses of Jesus and saw him perform miracles, etc

  drivers are ready to smash each other up if someone disrespects them on the road.

  The problem is that we now frown upon "political correctness" as if it was a bad word. Really, it used to be called "RESPECT" but we switch it to political correctness because it becomes easier to switch the context and then demolish it. In return, you have people bluntly disrespecting in each other in the name of "freedom of speech" because we seem to be tired of "walking on egg shells" around each other. Did we expect the result be anything positive?

  What drives me crazy is that fact that in this forum, we should all be really familiar with that bait and switch attitude. Those complaining that most about the sensitivity of other people tend to be the ones pushing the most buttons.

  It is ALWAYS a mistake to compare the actions of this man against an absolute. We all know that what he did can hardly constitute a "sin" in absolute terms. If he was someone else we would be jealous and wondering who can afford to buy all that. Regardless if it is for personal use or for a party.

  When you have the leader of a large "religion", who has the power to make tons of people miserable for having done the same thing he is doing, then it becomes a sin by extension.

  He may be the leader of a corporation on paper, but for millions of JWs he is a God's channel on earth and people beat themselves on the chest when they fail to meet his expectations, sorry, God's expectations. I see no need to cut him no slack.

  He was suspiciously dressed, alone and more than half hour away from Warwick when most other purchasing would be carried out by his minions. I am speculating in the following point but I have a feeling that even the car he took was chosen with the intention of maintaining a low profile. I am almost positive this guy hardly drives anywhere without a driver.

  Had he seen someone else act this conspicuously he would have had a talk saying...

  ... if it walks like a duck and poops like a duck... guess what?

  when i post i try to imagine that i am at a social gathering or sometimes in someone's house as a dinner guest.

  that way it is easier to follow the community guidelines and posting rules set out on the site at the bottom of the page.

  i wouldn't want to make a fool of myself in public.

  I don't really care which side you lean. I have comments of my own. We all like to think our reasoning is better than the next person.

  With that said, this place used to feel like a place of solace and rest for me. Lately I just lurk and when I do, I usually end up closing the window in regret. Too many subjects outside of the main theme. Just in case you need a reminder, we are trying to help people get out of a cult, not jump them from a religious one to a political one.

  Meaning of Luke 9:49,50

  these two verses indicate that "others" were preaching in jesus' name and when the apostles reported it to him, he said "let him alone for he who is with us is not against us".... since the wtbts states they are the only way to salvation, what does this scripture mean?

  others have the right to salvation as well - straight from jesus' mouth- as long as they preach ( in the verse it says expel demons as well) using jesus name?

  Looking at it from a JW perspective, it is hard to see it any other way. Yes off course, there are many answers as you can read here. Even those that line up more with the secular view. Few take the trouble of trying to answer in a frame of reference that matches the frame of the question.

  I was a JW for 15 years and never ever had to read this paragraph in a meeting. Only after I woke up did I ever stumble upon it. I think I can credit this paragraph among many that helped me wake up. The excuse given by the WT is not only overly simplistic but it is almost circular on its reasoning. You can interpret it as you did the way I see it. No JW would ever accept your or my view of it because we are not the GB. The idea that you can be spiritual and achieve salvation while separated from the group would be unacceptable for them because, well, they are a cult.

  so his response was that the nation of israel had times when they weren’t doing the right thing, but it was still gods chosen organization.. another topic we were talking about was disfellowshipping.

  slimboy makes a good point. Often times the org reasons over the "fact" that God allowed Satan to rule the earth to show men the outcome. They compare this to a student challenging a teacher over a lesson. How would the teacher look if he quashed the students questioning instead of allowing him to prove his challenge? If God allowed this, who is the GB to disallow it among JWs?

  Oh and it is true about the times the Jews deviated from what was right. No where does it say that you have to stick with the group during those times. Not then, not in Jesus' time. Who was Job associated with? Was he living with the rest of Moises' people? It can only be assumed.

  During Jesus' time, the apostles went out and found a man that was casting demons in Jesus' name. The apostles came back to Jesus to tell him they got after the man because he was not part of their group. Jesus reprimanded them for doing that. He told them to live him alone. Some call this the case of the "lone exorcist". Put that in modern times and it could be said that Jesus confirmed you do not need to belong to the org in order to be saved. Luke 9:49 "Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not accompany us.”

  I think there is a VERY GOOD reason that I had never read this passage in 15 years of being a JW
