i remember whenever we had an upcoming district assembly they would usually cancel the weekly meeting so it would be about 1 week (if you didn't do field service) until you would see members from your congregation again.
and also other members from other congregations you may have attended in the past.
do you remember how some members would embrace and scream for joy whenever they came across someone they hadn't seen in a while?
Actually, it's one of the few things I miss about being in....that and the (old) songs. In retrospect, many of those people may have been fake, but it sure made for a fun day. Sure, we know NOW that it's all crap, but at the time it was something to look forward to. I miss the fellowship and excitement of the conventions. It's damn hard to leave a cult after decades of indoctrination and start over. I believe that's why some go back.

It sounds like a really good project. Love the college grant idea! As you probably know, Leah Remini is working on a special about Jehovah's Witnesses. Apparently she is on twitter discussing it. If you haven't already, you may want to reach out to her. She may have more experiences than she a can use; Another benefit of reaching out is that she may want to interview you! i am trying to remember a cover of a wt or awake that had a picture of a priest or maybe even the pope.
i think the issue came out in the height of the catholic sexual abuse cases and being disappointed in your religion or something like that.
i have searched this site and google images but not be using the correct key words.. the reason i am looking for it is because should it come up that jw's are being persecuted due to all the recent publicity i would like to ask a jw if the wt and the mainstream media were 'persecuting' the catholic church when they were uncovering wrongdoing in that religion or any other.

They've been preparing for years for tithing..... Malachi 3:10 (2013 edition) changed the wording from 'tenth parts" to "tithing". They may bring it out as new light and some idiots will say "Gee, I never remembered that being there!" (because it wasn't) Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

i don't remember seeing it ever really talked about here but the facebook group with the namesake of this post shut down at the end of march.

Recently we watched a documentary entitled: "The Dark Truth of Religion". From the quality of the video, it appeared to be made several decades ago. It reminded me of a type of movie that they would show in a college class about the history of world religions. (Maybe this was one of the reasons the WT discourages a higher education- just a thought) The documentary illustrated the similarities of many of the stories in the Bible and Christianity with the stories of the early Egyptians and other secular religions throughout history. Being indoctrinated as a JW since birth, (and I'm ancient) I found it fascinating and as well as disconcerting. It had the ring of truth, but then again I am limited in my religious education.
What have you read or watched to expand your knowledge of the origins of the Bible and Christianity? I'm not seeking to debate here, just wondering what research has proved helpful to you understanding the origin of Christianity.......
