In some instances, the disfellowshipped family member may still be living in the same home as part of the immediate household. Since his being disfellowshipped does not sever the family ties, normal day-to-day family activities and dealings may continue. Yet, by his course, the individual has chosen to break the spiritual bond between him and his believing family. So loyal family members can no longer have spiritual fellowship with him. For example, if the disfellowshipped one is present, he would not participate when the family gets together for family worship. However, if the disfellowshipped one is a minor child, the parents are still responsible to instruct and discipline him. Hence, loving parents may arrange to conduct a Bible study with the child.*—Proverbs 6:20-22;29:17.

I hate to say it but the lawyer is correct in certain circumstances.

If the person lives at home with the family then normal family relationships continue. For example if a father is disfellowshipped his family do still talk to him while he lives in the house. It's only the spiritual stuff that stops

Of course the odds are his wife will leave him with the kids and then they won't be allowed to speak to him at all but they can claim to be telling the truth in some circumstances.

my mother now in her 80's does not miss up on an opportunity to preach.

in fact most of the time the opportunity does not exist but she mentions something anyway.. she is so blind it's embarrassing.

She continually praises individual witnesses and tells me how these individuals are the most fantastic people, point to where they live, where they work as we drive past. I couldn't care less but it does not deter her. Every conversation is about someone or something in her cong.

She mentions that the organisation is so efficient now and it has all changed for the better. It shouldn't have changed at all! This efficiency is list on her anyway because iPads etc are not her thing.

She mentions that 4 congregations are now sharing a hall but cant see in any way that this is a money grab form the WTB&TS.

I keep reading here that JWs are seeing through it but not so sure, are we projecting the fact we see though it onto others and assume they can also see it.

If my mothers anything to go by they haven't got a clue they just lap it up.

How are your older parents dealing with this change?

I am really surprised that no one picked up on my earlier comments.

The whole survey is destined to fail.

A person who “came in” in 2010 cannot possibly have done 40 years because there has not been 40 years since then. So the people who came in longer ago will on average have stayed in longer before leaving and the people who recently came in and left will have on average left more quickly.

It’s like saying that people born in the 60’s live longer than people born in the 90's because they are older!

Or if I am losing the plot please tell me.

I have not read this whole thread so others may have commented similar already.

It seems to e that the whole basis for this data means that the only possible outcome is that people leave the "truth" in a shorter time more recently.

The reason is because your sample population is those that have left (even if mentally if not physically), i.e on this board. If someone came into the "truth" in the 1950's then they have a possibility of being a witness for 60 years or so, if they came in in 1990's then they could only do about 20 years but if they came in in 2010 they could only be a witness for a max of 5 years.

Granted some in the 60's would have lasted as a witness only a year or 2, but all of the 2010 would have only lasted a shorts time.

So obviously the later they came in the less time is was before they left.

So angry. At the end of the programme the JWs gave a statement that said.

And I quote.

Poster country flags and privacy

the new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).

before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.

As I've said above, a flag is not "displaying people's information". It is a trait that someone has that is shared by millions of others and in no way identifies them.

As JWs form a small part of the population whilst it may be true that there will be millions of people who share a certain nationality it won't ever be true that millions of JWs share that trait of a single nationality. I just looked at the 2012 YB on jw.org and for example there are 7 witnesses in Norfolk Island.

It is good practice in surveys for example to anonymise (the spelling of that probably gave my own country away) the results by grouping where the numbers are very small in order to protect people.

The pain caused to many by being disfellowshipped is immense and in the rare circumstance that a person's nationality gives them away it may cause irreparable damage to their families and relationships.

Could be one reason why they stopped the mideweek book study. This leaves the hall open to be shared by 4 congregations more easily.

If I was still in and a hall I worked on and donated to was being sold and the money sent to the society I would be most unhappy.

This was a sign that Christendom was goiung downhill, they had to sell their churches.

They local people are so gullible
