a couple of years back , when i was supposed to be a "do not call" two old dears knocked on my door , when i told them the reason i was not interested in their message of "hope" (my daughters abuse by a disfellowshipped jw who had not been reported to the police for past abuse or disfellowshipped leavinghim free to abuse my child ) i told them i was very upset by this and one of them said "but he got sent to prison years ago" i told them that she was confusing him with another paodophile in the cong and the latest one had not come to court yet ! they obviously did not know about the investigation that was affecting quite a few in the congregation , this lady then went on to tell me she knew exactly how i felt ,as her grandaughter was raped and she had told her daughter it was her fault for letting her child go to parties mixing with goodness knows who (obviously worldly people ). im glad she was not my mum as that comment must have been an extra kick in the teeth for the poor woman whos daughter was raped ,which makes you feel like shit and so guilty anyway ! i cant remember what i said but i was very shocked and it never quite sunk in till after they went how awfull it was to say that ,what a kind "christian " woman . what kind of twisted logic must she have when a female could be raped anywhere day or night was her mum meant to be with her constantly !
jw blamed her daughter when grandaughter was raped !

This is the warped misogonistic reasoning so often heard in the JW-cult. They don't acknowledge that rape is a violent crime an abuse of power by the rapist. They seem to think that the victim has in some way brought the crime upon themselves. It is sickening! I am so sorry to hear what happened to your daughter.

what kind of twisted logic must she have
looloo... this is the logic of cults. Every single JW has done this. Every single one. They have to since the WTS's doctrinal changes, flip-flops along with the WTS's made up stuff with no Biblical backing is known to every JW. Love has very little to do with this group. It's simply legalistic, self-righteous, holier-than-thou ideals used to deal with everything they have no answer for. It's an 'I'm Right and You're Wrong' mentality. There is no room for love, compassion, or forgiveness with this.

I remember many years ago a letter from readers in the Asleep!
It was from a Japanese woman thanking them for the rag "Avoiding the Tragedy of Rape". She actually said thank you for helping her realise that if a man succeeded in raping her, that it is her fault. She was now even more determined to avoid it.
!??

Boy I would love to see a copy of that article, anyone know which issue it was?

Let me see if I got this right. You told the story of a horrible JW rapist who was not punished or reported, and the "sister" tried to show how she "agreed" with you by telling a story of how her JW daughter was responsible for letting her granddaughter go to a WORDLY party?
What planet is that bitch from? Is that what she calls "logic?"
"Hey Jack! Did you hear about that Catholic priest who raped victims right in his own Church?"
"Yeah. Sure did. It just goes to show you that potential rape victims shouldn't hang around Buddhists who visit Synagogues the day the Superbowl is playing!"
DOH!

I don't think the WT CD ROM has the letters from readers, but here's a pathetic quote from the above mentioned article:
Avoiding the Tragedy of Rape
"Learn, too, from the sad experience of Tamar, the young woman who was maneuvered by her half brother Amnon into an isolated place where he raped her. This case illustrates the need to be aware, to be conscious of the attitudes and feelings of others toward you. If Tamar had earlier detected Amnon's passionate feelings for her, she might have been able to avoid getting into the situation she did."---October 15, 1980 Watchtower, p. 6
If you read the whole account, there was really nothing Tamar could have done to prevent what Amnon did to her. For crissakes they were half-brother and sister. They either lived in the same house or pretty close by. This article is insinuating that no matter what, it's somehow the woman's fault if she gets raped.

It is disgusting how the WT society and JW organization de-value women and children. Men get off scot-free in that organization. And they mind control grandmothers like the one you talked to , to blame a rape victim for their own rape . It's disgusting. Sick organization. So sorry about your childs abuse also. Hope you guys are healing some now

It is a twisted and warped society. Jcs assume both parties are guilty and seek to establish repentance. It is easy to find yourself apologising and taking responsibility for some one else because of fear of being DF'd. It is disgusting and damaging and gives sexual predators vindication and justification. I spent years reliving the experience without the benefit of counselling because old men in Brooklyn think a few politically ambitious men can sit in judgement on their fellow man and require no special training. There is no sensitivity and asking a victim if they are sorry is unspeakably callous.
The societies behaviour and attitude is from the stoneage, no one in the outside world thinks that a girl attending a party is asking to be raped. If it was me I would have been tempted to kick them off my property and file an action for harrassment.

Let's use our critical thinking abilities and analyze whether that's true. First of all, is it true that JW's "don't acknowledge that rape is a violent crime". Well, they do acknowledge it, actually. Awake! magazine said that "Rape is the fastest growing VIOLENT CRIME in the United States." (March 8, 1993, p. 3)
Is it true, then that Witnesses "don't acknowleddge that rape is ... an abuse of power by the rapist"? Actually, Awake! said: "The time will soon come when Jehovah God will not tolerate any further ABUSE OF POWER, including rape." (March 8, 1993, p. 11)
OK, then, do Witnesses think "that the victim has in some way brought the crime upon themselves?" No, they do not. Awake! said that the idea that 'a woman can "ask" to be raped by wearing provocative clothing, drinking alcohol, letting a man pay her way, or going to his home' is a MYTH, adding "Using bad judgment, being naive or ignorant, does not mean that a woman deserves to be raped. Rapists bear sole responsibility for the rape." (March 8, 1993, p. 5) And The Watchtower, far from blaming the victims, said that "instead of blaming themselves, such [rape] victims can pray to Jehovah, ask for his help, and have confidence in his abundant loving-kindness." (Feb. 1, 2003, p.31)
