I know what you mean. They seem to fall back on the excuse that its an organization led by imperfect men. I cant stand it!
Because They Treat People Like Sh*t!

Met, this is one of your best threads. To the point and dead on. Oldtimers like my mom are discouraged because they are realizing that the elders and Society don't really care about their needs. "Just do more", is there slogan. And if you don't you're looked down upon and treated like "sh*t".

Because they treat people like sh*t! See? You don't need any of that ' 607 chronology' esoterica. You don't need
to research which Watchtower President had a mistress or an obsession with being gay or whatever. This sums it all up
without even using a complete sentence! The amazing thing is, that so many 'loyal' Witnesses know this to be true!
They believe "it's the truth" - even though they can regale you with long horror stories about what the "organization" has done
to them. I'm often tempted to tell them , "wouldn't it be great if the organization acted like Christians?" - but that might be
too much for them to grasp.
God this is so true! When I left and decided to go back, it was over the lack of kindness and "genuine Christian love". Genuine WHAT?! I didn't know then what I know now about 607 and Malawi and blood fractions. But now that I know too much, I know enough. Enough to know that it's NOT God's Earthly Organization and that I'm NEVER going back.
Great thread meta.

Well I am shocked! How can you say such awful things about the witnesses,,, Haven't you seen the covers they used to put on the Awake and watchtower magazines? Happy loving families that others flock to the KH just so they can be just like them? Unless......I wonder what goes on behind closed doors? Snoozy..knows!

JW's are in fact very ordinary people. As they have grown in number they have lost the small group friendliness.
Indeed! "The love of the greater number has cooled off".
I am still a JW in appearance. I intend to hang around 'til 2014. I'll be 69 then so hanging around isn't a big problem. That's pretty much what old people do.
But I want to personally be there when the great schism takes place. Centenials are hard to ignore. This will be the "BIG" one.
My prediction is that the organization can't survive that. This is a religion that requires a huge commitment. Up until now the justification has been 1914. The general concept has been tweaked but it will be the poison pill that is their undoing.
Of course some kind of world cataclysm (nuclear terrorism, , incurable plague, a fourth world war, world financial collapse) could pull them together in a kind of survival circle. But if 2014 arrives and it doesn't look much worse than it is now - it's curtain time.

The WTBTS has been so wrong about so many things. What if they are wrong about heaven and hell, only 144,000 go to heaven, paradise on earth, etc.? Do you really want to see if you can outlive the WTS while staying inside its sanctuary of deceit, lies and half-truths?

You can personally be there without being trapped inside in the event they are wrong about all of it. At least you will be free for a longer amount of time if you leave now.

Hubby was just recently told why he hasn't been accepted in to service for months. An elder shared with the committee a private conversation my hubby had with him last winter regarding a dispute we had with our neighbours. My hubby wanted advice on how to deal with the situation in a Christian way. The elders determined that my hubby has a bad temper (without telling him why he was denied, or giving him an opportunity to reform).
Well, NOW I can tell you, hubby is displaying ALL KINDS of bad temper. The Elders have provided themselves a self-fulfilling prophecy all over again.

I remember when I was studing with an elder. We were out in field service and the discussion of my mother came up. The elder told me that he didn't think my mother would make it to paradise because she did not go door to door. Well my mother was born with polio, she has one leg shorter than the other and it has created many other difficulties with her health.
I remember thinking at that time " who is this guy that thinks he can judge another in this manner " ?
I thought to myself only God can decide who makes it to paradise or not, and if this guy who was teaching me the religion was judging another when it was Gods only place to do so.
Now I had suffered an anyuerism in my brain and had lots of time on my hands to go door to door and one day this elder said to me " You just don't recieve Gods spirit unless you are knocking on doors " That comment made me seriously sick to my stomach. Then on the same day this elder asked me what was one thing I looked forward too in becoming one of Jehovahs witnesses ? I said "well it would be nice to find a christian woman for a wife because of how serious they held marriage. He told me that I could not and would not be approved for marriage unless I could support the wife and since I was on a disability payment each month that I was not capable of doing so.
My stomach turned so much that I could not eat my lunch that day. I did not know that I had to be approved in order to fall in love with someone. It was then that I decided to look into what I was getting involved in with this religion. It was this that took me to freeminds that led me here.
I thank my God for this place, for freeminds and for all those here that helped me get out and away from the religion. I have stated beforre that when I first came here, I was a pretty sensitive person and I took many things on a personal level, but today, thanks to JWD I have learned that I don't need to take things personal as experience tells me that I am not the only one who has went through those same emotions. Now I owe it to all those who come here as newbys that I can help them in return for the help I got.

Vitty, unusual I know, but my hubby has been denied field service for months. Blondie found it so odd she checked with elders from many other congregations to see if this is a regular practice. It is not. In this case, it seems the local body has gone "beyond what is written" to make congregation life miserable for my husband.
