My sister stayed with me for about a week a couple of months ago, she is a pioneer, two sons both at bethel, and married to super elder. She has to knock back about half to 2/3 of a bottle of port every night to get to sleep, which takes her anywhere from two to three hours before she can fall asleep. The picture of robust mental health I tell ya, but I'm sure she would deny to her last breath the borg has anything to do with it.

All the JWs that I know of look miserable. They look burdened, tired and hopeless.

That's because they are, all those things. Also guilt ridden. They're always being berated for low hours, not pioneering, not moving to Borneo to serve where the need is greater...

I look at my mother and it just makes me so sad. She was told not to have children in this system and now she's a grandmother, and her oldest is old enough to be a grandmother too. She said she was never "supposed to get gray hair, let alone watch her children get it". She was bawling the other day over the children who died in the earthquake in Pakistan. She said she spent the whole night begging Jehovah, asking to help her understand why. That she would die herself to save the babies. She said she doesn't understand why the end hasn't come yet.

I told her that I didn't either, and that if he'd been planning to do it, get on with it already. She knows that world conditions are a major reason that I left the JW's...as in, "when is enough enough? how many babies need to die before your universal sovereignty issue/egomania is satisfied?"

I don't know if this is still the case too...but when I was still in, it was implied if not outright stated often that if you were happy, you weren't doing something right. That jah's people have to suffer in this world, otherwise they're managing to fit in somehow. So much for 'jehovah's happy people'.

I've never seen a sadder, more neurotic or suicidal bunch in my life. What my family can't figure out is why I'm so genuinely happy and at peace since leaving...irks them to no end.

    Minimus -

I have noticed that. Sunday morning last week, wifey, the G-kids, and I went to breakfast. Near us there was a group of people that were obviously Christians by their talk. They had varrying beliefs based on the conversation, but they were happy, talkative people. { We were listening in a bit - but they were loud enough it wasn't eavesdropping for sure.} At one point they even mentioned how they had had conversations with Jw's and that their 'Bible's were different'.

Anyway in comes this young couple - I knew the man from when he was a young boy witness - just newlyweds I understand. They sat in the table next to the other group. The entire time they ate breakfast I never saw them say more than ten words to each other, never smiled. They just looked absolutely miserable! It was quite a contrast - this diverse group of Christians, whom the witnesses think are evil, discussing the Bible and being happy and joyful. And this young, in love, newlywed couple, looking as if they were about to have surgery without anesthesia or something.

Anyway they soon went off to get a nice spiritual feeding at the KH. Bet lunch was the same scene again.

I think deep down the dubs as a whole are starting to doubt their beliefs. That doubt is manifesting itself as a sort of depressed paranoia amongst the rank and file. That depression is a hollow fear of the truth.. that no armageddon and subsequent Dub deliverance is ever coming.

I really don't know enough JWs to confirm. However, I see it in the ones that I do know. What is frightening to me is how this will actually strengthen the faith of those JWs who are fundamentally obsessed with it all. The faith of the many cooling off and all...

I imagine this web of subtly and deceptively manipulated "facts" all used to support a false premise; the "facts" replaced or modified when necessary; conveniently explaining away any prior "unTruth"s.

It all makes me so very ill.

Fleur, your spot on! The funny thing with JDubs is that they are always coveting something, and feeling guilty because of it. All elders in all Congo's have rank. If its not the elders coveting others position, you can bet your bottom dollar its their wives. And, if you have an honest elder / wife team, you can bet that one of them is looking over their shoulder trying to spot who's out for them. And, then feeling guilty for it.

You get the guilt from not doing enough service(there's never enough), for getting that new car, from wanting the new car brother 20hoursamouth just got.

However, they are all happy witnesses in Gods earthly kingdom. Because, they are TOLD they are. Tell any witness, 'I not going back, its all rubbish' and you'll get two responses: 1, 'How can you turn your back on Jehovah', 2, 'You now your going to die at armageddon'. Witnesses feel guilty that their primary reason for doing all the corporation bull is to get through armageddon.

The friends in my hall appear worn out and exhausted. Everytime we have a conversation with a witness (whether by phone or in person) they have to tell us how miserable they are.

I keep in touch with witness friends from all over the country and haven't had a happy conversation with one of them yet about how good things are going for them.

Of course, they've been taught that things should be going bad for them, you know, the martyr syndrome. Being persecuted means they're right.

Of course, if things are going well for them then yes they've found the truth because Jehovah's people are the happiest people. Not miserable like christendom.

win win for dubs. Miserable or happy they are the chosen ones.

To be a "Happy Witness", I guess each and every witness would have to be convinced that they are saved, without a shadow of a doubt.

But they are kept in uncertainty, and burdened by too many meetings.

Jeff, maybe these JW newlyweds were unhappy for a reason.
