Lady Lee, I would have done the same thing if I had the power (money) to get rid of an obnoxious drunk. I am well aquainted with obnoxious drunks from my past. Not the present, thank goodness.

Anyway that is no excuse for a religious order to misuse funds intended to advance the world wide work of teaching Gods word.

I'm probably wrong, but the way I always understood it was that Beth Sarim was meant for the faithful men of old to reside in upon their return to earth. Then, when they didn't return when the GB thought they would, Rutherford lived in it, rather than to have it sit empty. Again, I might be wrong, but this has always been my understanding of Beth Sarim.

Actually, the faithful men of old were suppose to return in 1925 and Beth Sarim was built in 1929. So it seems rather obvious that the men of old were used by the Society as a rouse to be able to built this mansion and get Rutherford out of New York.

I think it's obvious Rutherford moved to California to get away from Franz and Knorr. I'd drink too if I had to work with Franz and Knorr.

The source of the funds is very much still a mystery.

From page 400 of the "Golden Age" article, it would appear that "the loyal ones" did not contribute towards the purchasing and building of the house.

"I am certain that the loyal ones would have been glad to help finace the house had opportunity been given,"

also the formal notice from Van Amburgh,

"March 3, 1930, To Whom it May Concern: This is to testifify that no money has been drawn from the funds of the Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society, or any afiliated association, by R. J. Martin, Brooklyn, N. Y., or anyone else to be used for the purpose of erecting, purchasing or acquiring the possession of any building or real estate in San Diego, California. Respectfully submitted, [Treasurer's seal] W. E. Van Amburgh, Treas."

would indicate that no money from the Society was used either.

So where did the money come from?

Does anyone have the previous page (page 399) of that "Golden Age" article? --VM44

    Gill,

Right, it is very strange for "The Golden Age" to ask where the money donated to the Boy Scouts goes, as The Watchtower has NEVER told anyone in detail with what it does with the money it collects.
