    Zazu,

I wish Norm had posted this topic...I think the dialogue on this tread would be taking an entirely different direction.

And of course you have no responsibility for that yourself? Kent of course held a virtual gun to your head and forced you to post off topic. My oh my!

Boy, do I feel dumb. Here I thought this was a thread about "Weddings That Honor Jehovah." Actually, it's a public stoning of Kent for his abrasive style.

    Oops.

(((Tina))) Hey Tina, I appreciated your thoughts, even if they are off-topic. The type of congregation does make a difference, I suppose, and this is probably what makes it difficult to label the Witnesses a "cult" and be done with it. Personally, I think they're a cult based exclusively on what's written in the Organization's publications -- even though I'm familiar with the content, its sheer cult-like nature can still give me the chills.

But then there are perfectly nice congregations in which everything is toned down so much that the religion seems little more than a harmless sect. That's the monkey wrench, I suppose.

The common denominator must be that ALL Witnesses participate in shunning, however progressive and wild and liberal their congregations may be (though Seeker will point out that even here there are exceptions). That's one of the most cult-like behaviors there is, yeah?

As with their weddings -- all they need to make them more cult-like is for the virgin-bride to sleep with the body of elders before being passed off to the groom.

Several years ago I attended my nieces wedding at a KH. I believe it was probably 12 years or so after I had last stepped foot in a hall. Anyway, my kids had NEVER before been in a hall or at a JW meeting. My youngest son was about 7 or 8 years old at the time.

The wedding ceremony was simply a charade for a doctrinal seminar with many scriptures read and cited that had little or no bearing on marital success or happiness accompanied by endless prayers to Jehovah as if he were a child who needed to have all requests explained in complete detail.

In the car on the way to the reception(another fiasco for another time), my youngest son said, "Who IS this Jovagod guy anyway?". Needless to say, we all laughed until we had tears in our eyes.

I just noticed that my last post was my 100th. My screen lit up and my speakers blared out "YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE BOZO!" Did that happen to anyone else here?

Agree that there's no real spiritual beauty in a Witness wedding. I've recently heard young women, all loyal Reg Pios, exclaim that they'd like to get married in a church! I wonder why?!!

I was interested in your comment Murray about the "endless prayers" in a Wedding 'service'. I thought there was only one, and that was at the end of the proceedings.

    Cheers,

That's the typical way of doing it. If a thread isn't to some peoples liking, run the subject off trac. Let's discuss something else.

Me? I can take stones - and I really don't care either. I'm kind of used to it. When people can't answer to a topiv because Norm didn't post it - then it's pretty hopeless too. LOL.

    ROTFLOL @ drahcir yarrum!!

"Who IS this Jovagod guy anyway?".

Man, I can't wait for Roo (my future son/daughter, currently resting snugly in Foxy's uterus) to be born! Kids have a remarkable gift of expression.

    Ozzie:

Perhaps there was only one prayer. It's endless nature perhaps just made it seem like there was more than one. All Witness prayers are long, arduous and rambling. If anyone talked to me, the way JW's publicly pray to Jehovah, I'd walk away from them within the first minute. If there is puking in the celestial realm, a JW prayer would certainly initiate it.

Witnesses seem to have a penchant for repeating the word Jehovah over and over again in their public prayers. D'ya notice that at the wedding? Like you say, if we were spoken to like that, we'd jack up! But it's not surprising is it? They are not taught to have a relationship with Jehovah so that they can call him Abba, Father. Instead they're taught the OT vision of God. Sad, isn't it?

Speaking of weddings, my first wife insisted on an all-out bash. way too many people for my liking. YES, it was a JW wedding. In retrospect, it was just plain GAUDY, LOL.

Anyway, in my last congregation, I was telling my best friend about the wedding, and he produced a WT article which pretty much summed up some pretty unique details about my wedding. He said, "So, they were writing about YOUR wedding!!"

WoW!! I got dis-HONORABLE MENTION in a WT.

    WOOOOHOOOO,
