    Hey all,

Well the rose coloured glasses are off, so i worked my trial period of two days which i didnt get paid for. So anyway turn up Monday, i was getting more confident with the software still not to good with all the accounting stuff but hey its been 8 years since ive done it and even then it was high school.

Anyway come the afternoon i was stuck on a few things and he doesnt really explain to me the hows or whys just do it. So at the end of the day he was like well that took you longer than expected perhaps i do have to train you in accountancy but i dont really have the time.

My reply was yes it would be nice to know why i should be doing thing and the reason behind it, he said i would be good if there was someone in the office all the time but seeings tho he wants to be out and about getting more business.

Anyway that night i had a bad night stressing over it i was also really annoyed anyway. So i went to chat to him yesterday, and he wants to give it another go, but now coz he has to stay and train me he wants to pay me only one of the two days i work, like he is giving up 50% of his time training me so i should be happy giving up 50% wage!!!!

Needless to say im not taking the job now

I was interested in working for one company but they wanted me to do an 8 hour orientation for free. I have ALWAYS been paid for orientations when starting a new job. I decided not to take that job.

Good call on your part. You sound too smart for that job anyway.

ES, Don't take the job, BUT TAKE THE TRAINING.

Do the day, then quit. You'll have that much more experience. Not much, but every little bit helps, right?

Some employers are so incredibly stingy when it comes to employees and especially when training is involved.

A few years back we shared office space with another dentist. That dentist's office manager was moving out of state and she was expected to train her replacement. The dentist thought he could get away with paying the departing office manager HALF her salary since the trainee would be 'picking up the slack'!! LOL What a jerk. The office manager left the next day and let him train the bimbo newbie.

Sorry for my little digression. Your story reminded me of this ridiculous stunt.

Yeah my last job I pretty much got paid for the 3 or 4 hours we sat in a board room going over the company and signing papers. Then I got paid for 1 week of extensive classroom based training and 1 week of on the job training.

What kind of an idiot drives away a potential employee who lives upstairs? Sounds like he's going to have trouble running his business, don't let him use you up.

I haven't heard of unpaid training. I've been hiring (and firing) people for years now, and I always plan for training time and their need to ramp up to reasonable productivity levels, but they get paid the whole time. I never thought about any other arrangement than that.
