Jw's don't like Halloween, because they don't like strangers knocking on their doors.
So Turn-about isn't fair play? hahahaha
What a bunch or maroone's.

You know what's bugging me right now? I can remember vividly the years we celebrated Halloween and I'd make costumes for the kids and take them out trick or treating or to parties, but the years after I became a dumb old dub, I can't remember much about at all. I know we kept the porch light off. I think we went to the movies on Halloween night a couple of years. One year I think we got pizza, closed the drapes in the family room and either watched a movie or a tv...but there's nothing truly memorable about those Halloween-less dub years.
Most families have fun memories of holidays. JWs have memories of being bored out of their minds at conventions or amusing anecdotes about being bitten by dogs or threatened out in service. Kind of sad.
I recall my folks always aranging to be out on Halloween. We'd go to the movies or something. It's sad...ever since I've been able to pass out candy, there's never once been a knock at the door. I'd love for some kids to come by.
This all has me laughing! The memories of hiding in the interiors of the home!!! One year we got paintballed du;ing the bookstudy right at the windows!! Actually that was kind of scary! The dentyne story made me crack up! I know, your heart goes out to those darling little kids!!!!
I have known of homeowners to disable the bell.
That would be us. My wife is a lifetime dub and she hates halloween with a passion.Since it falls on a non meeting night this year we will just "hide" at home....doorbell off, lights off or minimal and hope nobody will catch on.
We always had a sign on our door that said we didn't celebrate Halloween and "please don't disturb us". The only problem was when parents stood at the end of the driveway, while their 4 and 5 year olds came to the door. They couldn't read. I always felt terrible telling them I didn't have any candy...........their sad little faces were too much. Often, we would arrange to be out that night.
When I was a kid, we gave out stuff at Halloween, and we were JW's................I remember handing out apples, rolled up WT's and Awakes that the kids thought were comic books. Sometimes we had candy too.
We've lived in this house for 26 years, so it's taken a few years for the neighborhood to catch on that "there is candy at the King's house now". The first couple of years, we had just a couple of kids, and one year there were none. Of course the neighborhood kids have grown up too, but there are quite a few children again now. Last year they cleaned me out by 8:30 and I had to turn the lights off.
My parents did the original thing, putting a sign on the door that said "WE ARE JEHOVAHS WITNESSES WE DONT CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN"..........extremely embarrasing! AG
We never hid out -- we got the hell out of the house. One sister in the hall used to organize roller skating parties for the local JWs on Halloween -- so at least we had a place to go. Don't remember what happened on meeting nights though.

I remember being extremely frightened on Halloween night, as early as 3 years old. My parents made it seem like the devil and his demons would actually be coming to our house. The lights were turned off and we hid in a back room. It felt like we were under attack.
Yep... that's the Halloween that I remember... the front windows were covered with blankets. All the lights in the house were turned out. I couldn't even watch TV (the glow would give us away). We just sat there in the dark bored out of our skulls and my un-believing dad just let this madness happen.
I remember one time they went ahead and knocked on our door. I wanted to peek out the window at them. My mother told me not to do it because it would scare me and I would have nightmares. I bet she never had nightmares when she got to celebrate Halloween. She should have known better...
I just thought of a great costume! We should all dress as JW... complete with Watchtowers and Awakes... we could pretend we were street witnessing!
