To all those that have pet cats and/or dogs, what do you feed them?

It is said that tinned cat/dog food is made with all sorts of horrible things such as anything from an animal that's not fit for human consumption, intestines, spleens, blood, hide, plus dead animals, feathers chemically treated to become digestible protein and rancid discarded oils from restaurants. Cheap cereal fillers are added to lower production costs.

I prefer to buy cheap beef hearts from the butcher and cook them for my dog also give him bread, cheese and left over bones.

Those are the parts predators like the most.

Watch some of those Discovery Channel shows about animals going on the hunt, you'll notice that they always go for the internal organs first... then the meat later.

I feed my cats James Wellbeloved dry food. It's got natural ingredients and afaik the meat content is organic.

There are some canned foods which only use 'good' ingredients - they tend to be expensive though so it often works out cheaper to get dry food.

When I adopted my dogs they gave me a list of which dog foods were most nutritionally complete for them. There was a best, better, good, and poor. I give mine the cheapest alternative on the best list, which is Iams. My cats get it too. One thing I notice when they eat a premium food is less waste. The cheaper the food the more scooping you do. I don't know the British brands so I don't know the equivalents over there.

I feed mine Nutro Natural Choice Dry Dog food, as it has no by products and fillers. Then I make a stew with either chicken or beef, and add garlic, carrots, and small amounts of other veggies on hand. She gets 50 dry and 50 moist. I serve her food heated to a warm temperature, as dogs enjoy eating food warm.

I also give her Mother Hubbard Brand biscuits, as they are also natural, made with apples, carrots, etc. Occasionally, I will give her junk food treats very sparingly, ie; Scooby snacks, pupperoni, etc.

At times, I think the rotten Mutt eats better than I do...

Even though I'm not a vet I do know that cats and dogs are a natural predator to smaller animals. They are a carnivorous animal. Just take a look at their teeth. Each animal has a set of fangs to in order to rip and tear flesh.

Now check out a cows teeth. There built up like ours, flat, some what even, A cow is a vegetarian. A non-carnivorous animal.

Cats, if not given certain foods can develop bladder problems. I had a cat that was put to sleep because I thought he had a broken back. I only discovered after that he had kidney stones. That in itself is very expensive surgery.

Since then I made sure the food I purchased had minerals in it that would prevent bladder and kidney problems.

We had 2 dogs so far, the first one lived to be 13 1/2 the second one 15. Neither of them would even touch dog food, even as puppies. We had no choice but to give them human food. Our second dog even drank coffee!! LOL. Both were happy and healthy their entire lives and lived long lives.

My cat ate only canned food however, and she made it until 22 (and survived being hit by a car when she was 6!!)

The problem is dog food has tons of nasty nitrates added, which are highly carcinogenic so its worth doing some careful research before feeding a certain brand to your pet.

We prepare all the food for our puppys. It works out healthier and cheaper. We never have problems with their droppings either. ie I mean yucky runny ones.. ewww!

Food we include is chicken lamb beef or mince. pasta rice or cous cous and some mushed up cooked vegies like carrots peas beans. We then add some dry kibble which has extra vitamins and things our puppys need.

My boys love Ol' Roy dog food. The Wal-Mart brand of dog food.

This absolutely kills me because I have to buy it at Wal-Mart. I hate spending any money at Wally World. But, since my boys are getting on up there, I have no choice but to feed them the food they like because I want them to eat. We give them the dry food mixed up with the canned. They get very cranky if they don't get their food the way they're used to it.

    Spoiled rotton!
