How can you say there is no devil?

There is as much evidence for god and/or satan as their is for any other socially constructed myth. Most societies have evolved supernatural belief structures in order to explain what they cannot comprehend. The idea of a god was inadvertently placed in my mind by society, and my parents. It is a concept, not a reality. Reality demands physical proof, concepts only require faith and magical thinking. Appreciating the wonders of the natural world does not require a belief in some mythical creature in the sky. Even worse, it is precisely mans "faith" in the supernatural that has led to the evolution of dangerous religions (yes, including the JWs). Such infantile nonsense has led to thousands of wars, endless bloodshed and atrocity upon atrocity, all committed in the "name of god". Belief in god/satan/allah/zeus/ etc etc is the opium of the masses.

I think.... no I feel.... that there is a god. Not sure I see Him exactly the same way as when I was a dub though....

Having said that, 'feeling' that there is a god doesn't particularly make me feel like worshipping one....

btw - I've just given away my first ever Halloween Treats!!! The kids at my front door were delighted!!....

... I'm delighted there was only one lot so i can eat the rest myself !!! LOL!!

    Bull!

I still believe in God and Satan, I don't see a time when I won't believe. I just don't believe in the watchtower doctrine anymore.

    jgnat,

If you were to live your life as if you were unafraid and secure in God's love and care, what would you be doing tonight?

It's not about being "secure in God's love". I'm secure in His love and I desire to do what pleases Him. That doesn't include participating in the "devil's night". What should light have to do with darkness?

Whether you fully partake of the festivities or just dip your fingers in the pot by giving out candy or letting your children go involve themselves with it, you're involved - you've said, "it's okay, I approve of halloween and what it is (celebrating the dead, celebrating evil)." It is not fit for God's children to partake of the fruit of this world. Be in the world, but not of it. Why do Christians believe they can profess a faith in Jesus Christ, and then do what they want by pleasing the flesh? Did we not die to the flesh that we might live for Christ (live according to the Spirit)? Deny yourself - your flesh and it's desires, take up your cross and follow him.

Halloween is an abomination. It is darkness.

I got a big tin of chocolates for the little munchkins, when I went out shopping tonight.

Fortunately the hoarde hasn't been round, probably because the weather is so bad, so I may get to keep them for myself

Chances are that they'll be around during the week for Guy Fawkes night, though

LT, you knows i's loves yours styles, huh word?

    acuragirl,

Tetrapod, if you dont believe in the supernatural or the devil, then why have you tested to see whether there is a devil,i dont think your sure.

kid-A said a lot of what i want to say too. so, i will just say that my belief systems, and worldview, is borne of scientific method. there is no evidence for satan. so i did not believe in him. however, i found that i could also repeat some tests quite easily myself. and so i "neutralized" my mind and ran the tests. nothing came of them. so, guess what? i still don't believe in him.

You have said yourself youve played with those boards to see what happens and you pretty much call on the devil to mess with you if there is one.

yes, in a general way, you could describe my tests as such. i wasn't surprised to find that nothing happened. after all, i was not the first skeptic to run such tests. i highly recommend them myself. i can say with almost complete accuracy: "have no fear of the supernatural!". or awe for that matter.

How can you say there is no devil? You are just wanting to see proof i think.

i am always awaiting proof. do i think any will be forthcoming? i highly doubt it, and i am not going to hold my breath waiting around for it either. i am going to live my life in line with the data: none. so, i can say that based on my tests, and the fact that there is not a shred of material evidence for the existence of the devil, that he most very very very likely does NOT exist. THAT'S how i can say there is no devil, in case anyone else is wondering. if you see me espousing the virtues of satan, it is only to bug the resident stick-up-their-ass types. that, and i think that as far as the mythological creature satan is concerned, he is a super cool dude, who has gotten a totally false and bad rap from the abrahamics. he stands for free thinking, and making your own morals, and standing up to authoritarians like jehovah. so, i think he's cool. yes, atheists are allowed to dig mythological creatures. it means we like to read. tetragod has spoken. nemA.

I know what you mean and that way sometimes too.. and always have to remind myself that it is not a huge deal for the most part the whole world knows these celebrations are just a joke or an excuse to interact with others (there is no santa claus etc..) I never go out of my way too participate BUT if am invited I participate so as not to insult anyone because of my beliefs (over the technical reasons). I raised a daughter now 18 with some education about the truth of celebrating (according to WTS) and the bibical reasons for not doing it. My kid went out trick or treating every year. Sometimes the world even is so aware of this being a night that people do evil things (like posion apples etc..) that kids even know that this night is something to be cautious about - over and including the biblical facts or wrongness of it your kids will eventually know if they want to celebrate of there own accord or at least mine did.

This is just a temporary phase....all these feelings of watchtower inspired guilt will disappear, I assure you.

acuragirl, guilt is like a bag or bricks. Who are you carrying around that heavy bag for anyway? God? Let me give you a little inside information about "God"........ etc etc.

As I've often said, it no longer matters to me whether God or many gods exist(s). It doesn't concern me other than the occasional interest in the subject, and doesn't affect my daily decisions. 98% of the time even believers/theists go about their business unconcerned with "God." Being with the family tonight is a lot more important than worrying if you're displeasing an ancient semitic tribal sky deity.
