The thumbs up is because the show seems to be a pretty good expose. They talk with adult men online while posing as 13 yr old boys. They have graphic conversations then invite the man to their house. The house is in a residential neighborhood and the man walks in on hidden camera. Then the media guy comes out and asks them questions. Several of them confessed--1 was a special ed teacher and another was a rabbi. Rebel, I was horrified by what I saw, on Dateline. As a mom of two boys, I'm always checking as to who they are chatting with, and we are always talking to them about on-line predators. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they caught the same guy, the next day, using the same name, and he was going to meet another "young boy" at McDonald's.....I was wondering if any of the guys who they caught on the show have been arrested???? What a bunch of sicko's...and that Rabbi....OMG!!!! They even had disgusting pornographic pics, of him, that he sent to the "kid" he thought he was soliciting. They should all be sent away...at the least. Why can't these sick, perverts leave our kids alone, let them be kids for God's sake....it really gets my blood boiling.

OKAY...I saw that whole thing and it was pretty much the sickest thing I could have imagined. HOW MANY of these people are out there? That's so sick... you guys, just think, there could be people like that on this message board right now. I mean, they were everything from freaking unemployed slackers to special ed teachers to doctors to rabbis (who counsel families and children, I might add) to that guy who's in the army to whatever the heck else. And they ALL said this was the first time they were doing it. Oh my gosh, people are so SICK. I have a question, and it might sound so stupid, but WHY are men so much sicker than women in that way? Yes, I know there are some exceptions (like that Mary Kay lady who slept with her 12 year old boy student and now they're married) but I mean in general why are men always the sick ones? That seriously made me almost throw up. I was also quite ready to cry. It could be ANYONE... anyone you meet, any doctor you see, any counselor you see, any teacher, any attorney, any bum... they could all be sick child molesting perverts! That show proved to me that there are a lot more sick people than I thought! There's millions and millions. It's really sick and it makes me just so disgusted with humanity.

That DATELINE show Friday night is chilling. Just think of how man perverts are out there ready and willing to prey on the young. Makes me fear for my grandchildren. Each state needs laws like Virginia so these creeps can be locked up.

I saw Dateline of Friday and Sunday (To Catch a Predator). Whatta terrific piece of journalism. The reporter has guts to face each one of them in the kitchen....when the predators were expecting a lone child.

It was pretty good when the Rabbi lost it and went bezerk, but it is alarming how many child predators are there in just one town!!!! The police investigator admited they are overwelmed and the best way to proceed is prevention at home.

By the way, the Rabbi was the third Rabbi in his congregation charged with child predation through chat-lines.

Predators shown were many bums, one guy showed up NAKED) but also there were 1 or 2 soldiers, one school teacher, one physician (ER doctor) and the Rabbi. It could be anybody....

I wonder how many elders in the D.C. area dodged that bullet.

And then there is always some policeman or politician who gets busted , with undercover agents using the internet. And it dawns on you how strong their compulsions for that kind of behavior are. Behavior that is so risky that they stand to lose their standing in the community, their jobs, their wives and kids and ultimately their freedom and possibly be killed by a victim or victim's family member.

My 22 year old son and I watched it and were shocked, disgusted, etc. I was glad that he just happened to be here as I wanted to see his reaction as a young person. His mouth dropped open as many times as mine!!! I've heard that pedophiles are about 95% men...why is that?

I just don't think that enough women are involved enough in making laws, etc. I have often wondered if it would make a difference if there had been women included in judicial committee meetings, would there be so many abused children in the JW's? Same goes for the Catholic Church. It's said that men "think" while women "feel." I beg to differ....I think that women "think and feel" at the same time and their input is much needed in this society as well as others.

I had an elder once say to me about an abusive situation, "Well, that happened last year, why don't they just get over it?" Duh???? Wish I would have started beating him and then said, "Well, it's been and hour, why don't you just get over it?"

I really do not understand what the fascination is with either sex regarding children. There are a lot of mentally disturbed people out there that need to be on meds/counselling, what ever it takes. Anyone for castration laws????

I'm no expert but generally speaking, men have a much stronger sex drive than women, plus men have a psychological fantasy about taking a young person's sexual innocence away. I mean, how many grown men just loved it the first time they saw a 15-year old Britney Spears in her school uniform, with heavy makeup on dancing like a slut? (I can't imagine what her brain-dead mother was thinking of, allowing her to do that). I don't know too many women (okay, I know of no women) who have sexual fantasies about a 15 year old boy and I'd think they were sick if they did.

Pedophiles are sick in the head and 50% of them were molested themselves when they were young. That's what I learned in a Psychology course I took. I don't know if there's more pedophiles today than what there were 50 years ago, or maybe it's just talked about more, but to me, once they're caught, they should be castrated and given a lobotomy. Sick bastards. If anyone ever did that to my kid, they'd be going 6 feet under.

My son and I discussed after the show the fact that 13 and 14 year olds are falling for this....why aren't the parents aware of this? Where are they? My son reminded me of how often I checked with him on his computer use, and I didn't allow him in chat rooms, period. He could talk with his friends (we all had AOL back then) and they would instant message each other all the time.

What 13 year old would listen to such filth and then be drawn to meet this person...there is some disconect here that I just don't understand. Is this the product of parents working 2 jobs and leaving the kids on their own??? Any ideas?

13 or 14 year old boys have got raging hormones-------they're probably not aware of what's in store for them if they actually agree to meet these sick pigs. For some kids at this age, anything sexual is a turn on and unfortunately, there's a lot of sick, twisted bastards out there.

I think this could have a lot to do with it. Kids are left on their own for hours on end while the parents are at work and they have no supervision whatsoever. Parents need to be vigilant about keeping an eye on who their kids are "chatting with" on the internet, whether you work outside the home or not.
