I just read this http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051104/NEWS04/511040390/1027/NEWS11 and was suprised to learn there's an indoor pool up there. Are there tennis courts, too?

Although they don't suspect the parasite of spreading to other pools, health department officials said as a precaution, they contacted the county's five other indoor swimming facilities — Green Chimneys in Patterson, Carmel Fitness and Racquet Club in Carmel, Jehovah's Witnesses' Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson, Arms Acres in Carmel and St. Basil's Academy in Garrison — to recommend that they superchlorinate their pools. Area doctors and emergency rooms in Putnam and other nearby hospitals also were told to be on the alert for patients with similar symptoms, Amler said.

All I was told for the years I studied was how modest jw's are and not to go overboard with extravagent things. Since when is a pool necessary to preach and publish?

I love to have fun, but come on now.....the wts deciding something like that is ok, but a person having a nice big house is looked down upon.

The thing to remember is the number of people at Wallkill, Patterson, and Brooklyn. 1,000 to 2,000 or more at each site. Wallkill and Patterson are surrounded by small towns that probably number 2,000 or less. If suddenly, Bethelites started using the local basketball and tennis courts, pools, etc, the WTS thinking is that the Bethelites would hog the facilities. Add to that that the WTS pays no taxes to support these things; you get a very hot non-JW populace. Even in Brooklyn the young Bethelites were hogging the local courts upsetting people in the neighborhood (also there is that "danger" of coming into contact with non-JWs). So the WTS justifies building basketball, tennis courts, and pools for the Bethelites.

This has been the case since the 1980's that I'm aware of.

It's so the supa-dubs can keep up to form on their 'backstrokes'! ::drum sound in the background:

Thank you, thank you! I'll be here all week! Try the veal, it's delicious!

Brooklyn has a small indoor pool, sauna, indoor basketball court and indoor/outdoor tennis courts too.

Good points, Blondie. I didn't realize they allowed any time for fun. Seriously.

Brooklyn has a small indoor pool, sauna, indoor basketball court and indoor/outdoor tennis courts too.

I never would've guessed it since it looks like a factory from the outside. I never took a tour of brooklyn. Something came up each of the 4 times I was scheduled.

Now you are just nit picking. Who frowns on those who have a nice big house? The "friends " do. Not the FDS.

D, where do you think those opinions come from? Their "thinking has been adjusted" to agree with who you consider to be the FDS.

A few years ago we were going to put in a pool and a few people were making snide remarks about it! (And bringing up scriptures etc...)

I wish I would have had that knowledge back then!

    They can kiss my a$$!

D, where do you think those opinions come from? ; Their "thinking has been adjusted" to agree with who you consider to be the FDS. Lonely, I get the SAME information as everyone else and I dont think that way. I do not see the Slave telling us to be that way either. Sincerly D.
