When I was a JW, the only time I became suicidal was right before the meetings and assemblies.

    Fred,

if randy said that some elders has died, you would said that all the elders you know have never died.

    Chasson,

I'm sorry to hear about your problem. But there is no need to blame the elders for more discouragement. I'm sure they were trying their best not to cause further problems.

    Chasson,

I said that there is not an elder that I know didn't committ SUICIDE.

    Fred,

What about my question to you? Many people experience bouts of depression, which in some cases, can even lead to suicide. Would a person experiencing these symptoms be well-served going to the elders for council, and if so, would the elders be likely to recommend that they seek qualified help if they need it?

    yes fred,

they were trying their best in the limit of the stupid rules of your organisation. Unfortunately, some of them didn't need the stupid rules of your organisation to be foolish.

    Bye

    Chasson- What rules?

ChuckD- Everyone has a right to get qualified help for their mental problems. Even it means going to their doctors.

    Fred, I agree, but that was not my question. What I asked was this;

Would someone who is suffering from depression be well served by seeking council from the elders, and if he or she did, would those elders be likely to recommend that the person seek needed professional help?

    Chasson,

Thanks for the information. We've extensively discussed this Watchtower dirty little secret on another thread here. Unfortunately I'm in a position to know a great deal about the number of suicides among JWs. There are many, many traveling overseers who feel forced to live a double life. Sometimes they reach what they consider a point where there is just no way out. I know that from many, many personal experiences that have been shared with me.

    I mourn such tragic loss.

The new Awake! has a series of articles on depression among teens. In it, almost buried there is an almost begrudgingly stated point that 'the Bible is not a textbook of medicine and sometimes you have to go to a physician for help.'

Suicide is a very real problem with devastating consequences to the families left behind. They need comfort not criticism.

PS: Wasn't GB member Ted Jaracz present at this convention? His assistant said he was in France ....
