All cults and cultic systems have 'esoteric enigmas'.

  • Esoteric adjective: confined to and understandable by only an enlightened inner circle (Example: "A compilation of esoteric philosophical theories")
  • Enigma noun: something that baffles understanding and cannot be explained
  • This provides for an 'enlightened class' and is: # 5 on the list of 8 marks of a mind control cult:

    The "Sacred Science"AKA "Mumble Jumbo"

The cult's ideology becomes the ultimate moral vision for the ordering of human existence. The ideology is too "sacred" to call into question, and a reverence is demanded for the leadership. The cult's ideology makes an exaggerated claim for possessing airtight logic, making it appear as absolute truth with no contradictions. Such an attractive system offers security.

It was no big deal. They look like public talk outlines.................and they might be just that.

Pioneer school was disappointing to me. It was exciting for sure, but just an intensive review. Nothing new.

My opinion is that the "reverence" for the Pioneer book, and the ridiculous lengths some take to keep it only for pioneers, is a ploy -- whether intended or not -- to elevate the status of pioneers. This has the effect of prompting others to pioneer so they can increase their social and organizational standing in the organization.

The above could be said for the entire concept of "Pioneer School." I did it and was dissappointed. There is absolutely nothing of any significance that goes on there. Nothing.

Mulan, it was intense, wasn't it???!!

I actually had a good time at the PSS. Things I knew, I came to have a deeper understand of those things. But we had two wonderful instructors. One of the CO's was a researcher. Oh I liked him. But I always loved to research things myself and had learned to appreciate it because of him --- he was our CO and from the time I met him, I loved it when he came to town. He really was not about putting guilt trips on people. He offered to help clean a Bible study's floor with me (there was soap and oil all over it) instead of having the study. Then on another he sat outside to conduct a study with me in 30* weather and he gave his coat to the study. Her boss would not let Jehovah's Witnesses in her house (the study was a full time nanny).

The other conductor was full of common sense rules and illustrations. Rule about nylons? Do you have to wear them in service? If you have good legs, you don't have to wear them! LOL.......

You know Bradley, sarcasm sucks. I didn't leave because I hated the people. I had some nice experiences, not all, some. I don't agree with everything they do but I don't agree with everything you do either.

I always felt like those who had the pioneer book were in a secret club that made them better than the rest of us who never pioneered... even if we aux/vac pioneered many times.. It felt like a snub in a way

It's all about elitism. A special reward for those that are pioneers.

As for being better than everyone else, this is my experience. It was customary for aux pioneers of the month to attend the pioneer meeting with the CO during his visit. One time, being very guilty about not being a pioneer, I aux pioneered the month of the CO's visit. I took a week's vacation during the visit to get most of my time in and attended the pioneer meeting with a couple of other auxs and the lone cong' pioneer. When the CO asked who we were and what we were doing the auxs were all put down for not being "real" pioneers. I felt so low I never bothered to auxillary pioneer again.
