How about being a spiritual person compared to a religious one

I like that phrase - it's summed up in a nutshell what I was trying to convey to someone last night...

Can't stand holier than thou people either...

    Bull!

I am sure there are a couple of nice pentecostals. I suggest it is not the form or traditions that are offensive, it's the forms and traditions absent of simple kindness that we find offensive. I think Jesus mentioned that.

What do you call the bible then? LOL

Did I mention the Bible???? I dont think so.. !!! I mentioned CREATION>>>>> Leave the Bible out of it.... Some one MUST have Created??? Right???? Give me YOUR answer WHO?????? I only accept the bible view because I havent heard any better explanation...( although even in the Bible I dont acept all the mens views .) Evolution wasnt giving ME any help ( although many believe it),,, The ONLY way I believe that A Creator exsists is because when I talk to this INVISABLE God I get a lot of answers. They havent locked me up yet....!!!! I feel sad that the WT made many atheists. But I am glad I have what I believe to be the "bread of life" I dont mind if you laugh at my thoughts. !!!! But the one thing I can HONESTLY say about myself( holier than thou NOT!) I LOVE people... !!!! And since I believe LOVE does make the world go round ------ I am glad I have it.. (HUGS)

    MsMcD,

I don't know whether they actually listened to it or not. It's defenitely not their style of music. I mostly compiled the music for myself, sending it to them was my way of explaining how I felt in my terms. Considering this song was on the 2nd disc, and the 1st disc was filled with much angrier music, i seriously doubt that have or will make it to this particular song. I have the track listings posted somewhere, I can find the thread for you if you want, It has my letter and the cd content both.

I hope all works out for you, I don't envy your situation.

Mouthy....I wasn't laughing at you. I was laughing that you didn't want to believe man's word, yet believe in God...therefore have to believe that the bible is at least the word of God. Either evolution or creation or whatever are all artificial constructs of the mind. The mind builds these constructs so as to "make sense" of the world and allow us to have our place in the world. We are imposing our beliefs onto the universe to make them true somehow.

Just as Aztecs believed in their various gods. As did the American Indians. As did Romans and Greeks. With the perspective of looking back...their beliefs seem "quaint".

I'm sure back then most of these folks felt the same way you do Mouthy. That their gods gave them "peace of mind" and "talked" to them, and "gave them comfort". But their belief in them did not make them any truer. Of course you could make the argument that since the humans gave their worship to a certain god or object...they did make them a god then. They wished it into being.

You have chosen to be a Christian because it "makes the most sense to you". Yet if you were born in China you would probably be a Buddhist because "that would make the most sense to you", because you are surronded by Buddhists. You are the product of your enviroment and upbringing. About 80% of people end up the same religion as the one they were raised in. Why? Because it "makes the most sense" to them.

If you were raised being taught the sky was red....you would look up and see that the sky was a magnificent shade of red. Religion is no different.

I'm not making fun of you. My beliefs are just as artificial and silly as yours are. You can worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Jesus, Jehoba, or the Pink Unicorn. They will all look silly and quaint to future generations. So I apologize if my eastern religious slant offends you. It's not my intention. But if you cannot seriously stand back and look at how silly all the belief structures are in the world and understand that it is a construct of the mind...well then perhaps we'll just have to disagree.

Saw the light. Drank the Kool-Aid. Tomato / tomatoe. LOL

Of course we can disagree and still get along famously. We can both agree that we'll just mock the JW's instead. How 'bout that? LOL

    MsMcDucket,

What in your mind is an "holier than thou" person? The phrase makes me more uptight than anything else. Is someone "holier than thou" if they're not living in sin, when they rebuke you for something you have done, or make you wear dresses you don't want to wear?

I understand that some individuals are definitely "legalistic" and would rather or unknowingly tend to live by the law and not by grace. I often feel people impress on someone else the "holier than thou" label when they've been rebuked or corrected in a certain matter and what was said "cut to the heart" and they know they're in the wrong. It hurts, therefore a person becomes defensive rather than humbly accepting their folly and repenting of it. On the other hand, many times a person corrects another while hypocritically living their own life contrary to their teachings. In either case, it doesn't make them "holier than thou". They're either right (so we label them out of pride) or they're hypocrites and have no place to judge another. Of course, judging another is a whole different topic (we are not to judge anyone outside the body of Christ, but to love - those who do not have the Holy Spirit do not necessarily know any better).

So, when I see a Pentacostal woman at work in a dress, it just makes me dislike them.

Be careful. Take hold of your hurt and anger and give it over to Christ. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Don't carry your hatered around with you or it will fester and you'll become like the ones you apparently despise. By your comment above, you're judging by mere outward appearance. Isn't that what makes us in our flesh label someone as "holier than thou"... they're judging us?

And no, I'm not Pentacostal and Pentacostal is not a religion, but a denomination of Christianity.

    And cue the apologist......

"If they aren't living in sin" - get off the cross someone needs the wood
"Rebuked" the person - aka sticking their nose where it does not belong.
"Humbly accepting the folly" - aka sucking it up and not raising waves
"Give it over to Christ" - aka praying to Sky Papa to help you even though you don't deserve it you piece of crap....oh, and sticking a $10 spot in the contribution box at church
"And no I'm not a .........." - aka I'm not Pentacoastal I'm the whack nut bible beater that REALLY has all the answers

    (Insert eye roll here)
