I know that the anti-college crackdown has begun in earnest now. But kids who go away to school are usually age 18, considered legal adults, and make their own decisions. How can they hold that against the father, even if he is an elder? Once the kids are out of the house, what they do doesn't reflect on the father in the same way. Or does it???

For once Mini, I think you are right. I perceive that there will be major 'mental defections' from the cult because of their hypocritical stance on higher learning; "Don't go to university unless we send you to help us defend ourselves against Satan and his minions who are determined to blaspheme against Joe Hoba's visible organisation". There is an elder who has been in da troof for 35 years who stays in contact with me even though he knows I am a WT apostate. He agrees that some things are just not right within the organisation. He never would have dreamed saying something like that 5 years ago.

This the sifting/dividing work, brothers. This removes the goatlike ones (intelligent), thus leaving the sheep (dumber ones) for continued use/abuse.

They will probably tell the elders to treat their grown kids like they're disfellowshipped if they decide to go to college. I swear these people are living as Neanderthals.

    Hi, GGG...

If the parent(s) are paying for that education--or have not tried to disuade their child from seeking an education--it would indicate they are encouraging (or at least not discouraging) it.

My mother and father recently told me how an elder in their congregation was questioned because his daughter, an outstanding student, was given a full-ride to a college located about 2 hours from them. This scholarship included full payment of room and board, and the elder said he would feel like a fool asking her to pass that up by instead making her drive two hours to school and two hourse back every day--or having to foot the enormous expense of paying for an apartment for her.

    This elder was removed.

See.......the Society will just remove the "smart ones". They don't care at all if they lose numbers. They'd rather have a small core of loyalists than a large membership of dissidents.

I worry about next year. It's another year of obey, obey, obey.

2006 Yeartext: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men." -Acts 5:29.

    Commentary:

This article gives me chills. No, in these last days the persecution JW's suffer is not from being thrown in jail or to the lions or boiled in a headhunter's pot. The persecution JW's face today are:

    - a Christian youth with unbelieving parents or a
    - Christian wife with an unbelieving husband.
    - What about a single Christian man or woman seeking a marriage mate?
    - Or brothers and sisters who must have daily contact with non-Witness coworkers?

"...While not challenging his headship, neither the child nor the wife will compromise his or her faith. When it comes to attending Christian meetings, preaching the good news, avoiding unchristian customs and practices, and so on, each one "must obey God as ruler rather than men," remembering that Jehovah God is Head over all.-1 Cor. 11:3; Col. 3:23."

    Forecast:
It's going to be an awful year for those of us with JW loved ones or subordinates. We'll be viewed as the persecution every time we try and insert some normalcy.

    Antidote:

To obey God rather than men includes the leadership of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. In the months leading up to 2006, why not encourage your partner to study the bible on his own, without the guidance of any imperfect men, to make up his own mind on things. After all, doesn't he want to obey God rather than imperfect men?

About 15 years ago I 'served' (JW Buzzword for Lorded over) in a congregation where the PO's son was going to UT and living on campus. About half the elders wanted to bring the PO up on charges that he wasn't meeting the requirements. I can only imagine that with this New Light that any intelligent elder will secretly, if not openly question the reasoning behind the WT BS on this. I bet all those window washers and floor cleaners are fit to be tied when they see 'successful' elder's kids going to university while they themselves are emptying the Piggy Bank at the end of the month just to buy groceries.

Minimus...completely in agreement with you there...the void will be filled with lesser intelligent and uneducated people who just accept anything without any thought, question or critical thinking.... Similar to disfellowshipping there are never any reasons why an elder or ministerial servant has stood down or been asked to step down...which invokes the usual rumour mill...i.e that the bloke concerned was found in a compromising position with a sheep when in reality he only let his son or daughter get a decent degree. It will either beat the BOE into submission or it will force them out...either way the WTS wins.

    That's what I'm afraid of.
