Bull, that could be. Actually, people putting money in many of the ones in the KHs I attended were right by the door on the way out, not easily visible.
Ever think why the collection box is in the back of the KHall?

The one in my old hall were at the back by the doors - and would have afforded a little privacy if it wasn't next to the book counter!
As contributions are needed to keep places of worship running, I don't disagree with contribution boxes per se... but I think there should only be one box, and if the borg want contributions for different things, make them apportion the cash themselves out of the total contribution, not try and pressgang cong members into making more donations than usual..
Bull!

The whole time being involved with the society I never once put one dime in that darn box. When the elder that was studing with me told me that I needed to pay for the mags and then ask for a donation at the door, I told him then I was keeping the money I collected to repay me for what I had paid. He said "NO" you must give that money back to the society. So my first thought was Oh so they collect twice for the same magazine. "FREAKIN THIEFS !!!!!!!!!!

I dont think every single thing done at KH's is cynical. I think the most cynical things are big decisions coming from the top. I think there are a lot of genuine brothers & sisters out there trying to live up to the spirit as well as the letter of the law.
And I think the donation box is a genuine thing. Its meant to be discreet and anonymous and it more or less is most of the time.
I think the cynical thing is the constant timetabling of 'begging' talks from the society. Even the brothers giving these talks feel uncomfortable a lot of the time, and try to find ever more tactful ways of making it not sound like a begging talk - though its always painfully clear that its 'another money talk'.

I thought it was just a wall decoration. You mean they actually use those things?

This might be a silly question, so bear with me...I left the JWs before I became a full-fledge working adult...
Today, when I give to my church, they keep track of it. I get a statement every January that shows the total that I've tithed for the year. It's really great, because I then hold onto it for tax purposes. IT REALLY helps with tax deductions now that I'm a home owner.
If all your donations as a JW are anonymous cash donations, it's obvious you don't get a written statement that proves what you've donated. Do JWs even get such a thing? Are they able to keep track of their donations and deduct them? Does the WTS get a better deal when they don't have to report how many anonymous "donations" were given to them??? I'm wondering if the WTS has a financial angle for making everything anonymous...

Triple A- I'm sorry- I realized that's the way it looked. I meant now , in my church now. Sorry I confused .

I think it's less discreet. You're now standing up and walking to the box and more people can see you.
They might not know what you gave, but?

Billygoat- That's the same with me. My wife and I know exactly what we gave and what the church took in. and where the church spent it! Pretty cool huh?
Youre questions are quite valid! Biddie
