In the UK if you were a UK taxpayer you used to be able to make a Deed of Covenant when I was in. You basically guaranteed to give so much a month and then the charity could get the tax back that you had paid on the amount (basic rate tax only).

Im not sure what happens now. Ive been out too long, but I assume its the same kind of thing, as there are good tax breaks for charities here. Its only if you are a higher rate tax payer that having a record of your charity donations benefits you ( I think) - or if you are a limited company.

In the old days, the collection box was the sole source of local income, the congo took it and banked it and sent donation to the Bethel . The mags and lit were paid for by the bros. and that money was remitted seperately. Now it is harder to track down, The WWWF has a seperate box. instead of paying for literature , .. the best donaters probably use a Deed of Covenant and pay seperately , others may pay their WWWF donations direct to the Society , there was even a website set up for direct donations . Is it still going? My point is that nowadays you cannot tell who has paid and who hasn't. also where it was paid . So perhaps they never know

This question made me wonder - why are there 'donation' boxes at the Book Study too?

why are there 'donation' boxes at the Book Study too?

CO told elders that the publishers weren't donating enough money at the KH. No one ever put money in the book study I attended.

Is it appropriate to have several contribution boxes in a Kingdom Hall, each labeled for a different purpose?

This is something the local elders may decide if there seems to be some reason for the arrangement. As the Organization book states on page 149: "Contribution boxes are provided at our meeting places so that each one can have a part, ‘just as he has resolved in his heart.’—2 Cor. 9:7."

On occasion (a week or so ahead of time, if circumstances permit) the elders may recommend to the congregation that whatever contributions are received a certain night be used for relief purposes. Some may find it appropriate to have a separate contribution box to start a building fund. So matters may be handled in different ways.

It is recommended that contribution boxes be provided at the various book study locations. Funds received at these locations are added to the congregation cash account and are used for Kingdom Hall expenses or for advancing Kingdom interests as the congregation may direct.

Maybe it's just a way to hide thier greed. or at least to put a guilt trip on some.

I never liked the new arrangement with all the labeled boxes, so I just put my money in one box, the entire time! I just thought that it was getting to be too much like asking for money and was rebelling against the "new light." That little thing was probably the beginning of the end for me....you know, not being faithful in small things. I kept all the donations I got in service as I had already paid for the literature. Look where I am today!!!

You know guys- after I thought about my post alittle I realized it might not be to "see" who was donating. It would be easier to see who didn't approach the box! Biddie
