In all fairness to the WTBTS I received competent instruction and practice in public speaking, both the outlining of a sermon and it's delivery, in the Theocratic Ministry School. This enabled me to be more relaxed and poised in social situations. The door-to-door work helped me in being relaxed when meetings starngers, and also enabled me to become a proficient salesman. I also received instruction in the use of various Bible study helps.
Through the 'Evolution' book a life-long interest in the question of origins was kindled in my mind that continues to this day.
Through my negative experiences with the WTBTS I learned to listen to my own heart, to trust my intuition and instincts, and distrust so-called 'relgious authorities.' The WTBTS unwittingly made me a much more skeptical, questioning person. One that places great emphasis on logic and critical thinking skills. I am far less credulous and gullible than most people. Thanks to the WTBTS, even when I was a fundamentalist Christian my innermost self held back from thoroughly believing in nonsense such as a virgin human female being impregnated by a deity and other fantastic claims of religion in general. Such as dead stinking rotting corpses being raised to life, walking out of tombs, and flying off into the air sans any aerodynamic contraption whatsoever. Or Buddha ascending into the sky on a plume of smoke.
When you come right down to it, without meaning to they gave me some of the best hands-on life experiences. It came at quite a price in terms of emotional distress and inner turmoil, but still it came.
*Sniff* I think I'll mail the Governing Body a great big "Thank You" Card. Not.
