    OldHippie,

well, there was a Man who was more than just a man and whose name was Jesus, and who was backed by some might forces, God and The Holy Spirit - and I guess that combination could produce slightly more growth than could early Mormonism or sociologic calculations assumptions .........

Actually, this factor could be considered in ANY debate that involves god as it's one that cannot be disproved.

If god could make christians flourish at that time....why didn't he prevent the persecution?

Eusebius was quite the pathological liar, inventor, and toadie. He created a history for the Catholic church in the fourth century, and even admits that a great many of the groups he counts as "Christians" were Essenes, Theraputae, etc.

The Church didn't really take off the way most people think until it was the only legal religion in the Roman Empire. That's definitely a motivator.
