I guess this is my last goodbye, but you don't care so I wont cry but you'll be sorry when I'm dead and all this guilt will be on your head!

Am I missing something? Please tell me this is a song lyric.... On topic - I think like others have said no matter where you go there will be corruption in an organisation. These types are a minority but because of the things they do it creates such bad publicity that at times it appears to be a majority situation. Therefore people begin projecting their hate and animosity to all. You see this displayed in all walks of life. I don't think hatred to any group is justified.

Some people believe that the police only exist to catch other people doing wrong, not them.

If someone gets knocked off for law breaking then they will view the police as fascist pigs, but if they don't deal with the ASB of the kids down the road, they are ineffectual.

In the words of Bart Simpson "We're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't".

I suspect some posters on this board still havn't gotten over their parking tickets

I don't hate all cops. I've been helped by more than one. I think the idea of the police is a good one. BUT I also think that as human beings we have the problem of taking on stereotypes and taking our authority to an extreme unless we're aware of what we're capable of and have others watching and not giving in to the good guy/bad guy scenerio. http://www.prisonexp.org/

I've been screwed over by a couple cops that decided not to file reports they were required to file....another decided that a guy following me around for 3 years wasn't stalking me and so until a 911 operator got involved the guy was never warned. Also had an ex-boyfriend that was caught speeding that was told that if he could run up a hill he was near and grab a twig off a bush at the top of the hill...and make it back down in 3 minutes he wouldn't get a ticket--I was with him so I know it happened.

There are good cops--as others have stated. BUT there are bad cops and also sheep that follow other corrupt cops.

Some are ok, but others have serious attitude problems. Power corrupts... Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

I also feel for them to a degree - it's a thankless task. They arrest criminals, put em in court, judge lets them out on 'technicalities', people think less of police cos criminals are still at large - and so the circle go's on.

I do think they spend too much time trying to catch motorists out for speeding, rather than concentrating on the criminal element.

    Bull!

From "I Can't Stand Losing You". This song, coupled with "Every Breath You Take" (both by The Police) are NOT tunes you want played to you as dedications from a psycho ex.

    My experience with cops:

Married to one for 15 years - Even the best of them get burned out and cynical, as it pertains to police work, they start suspecting everyone is lying to them and don't trust anyone. Police are an occupation with one of the highest divorce rates and with a high percentage of spousal abuse. Not all of them, but enough that we are looking at state and national legislation that would take this situation seriously. As an abused former spouse I will agree this is pervasive.

Knowing lots of them over the years - They don't take the laws as seriously for themselves when it comes to speeding, parking, seatbelts, etc. Some flip the badge when pulled over, some rely on the buddy system. There definately IS such a thing as closing ranks and protecting their own I have seen it time and time again. Again, this is anecdotal, but colors my view of police based on my experience.

Last - this occupation, in which the employees are trusted with our life and liberty, with decisions regarding lethal force, requires an AA degree. Two years of college (in the US). Not a bachelors (minimimum in most other occupations outside the trades), but a two-fricking year degree. Thats insane.

Do I hate them? No. Do I trust them? Now thats a whole 'nother question - no.
