I am for the Death penalty, but I think the victims/families wishes should play a greater role.

For the most part, as in cases where their is such a heinous spirit or energy attached to the crime. Where the criminal just bathes and languishes in what they've done, where they celebrate the murders that they've committed without even a sembelance of remorse, then I say yes.

There ya go. I can see why people have the point of view that life is precious in their stand against the death penalty. Also, that there are people who have been convicted erroneously for crimes they didn't commit (rare, but it happens).

However......I cannot fathom just WHY anyone would want to support violent types like Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, etc., wherein the evidence in support of their guilt is overwhelming.........for ANY length of time and prevent their immediate extinguishment. It boggles the mind.

Frannie- it's not a matter of wanting them to be gone. It's a matter of principle-- and then knowing for some of us, nothing gets rid of the pain of a loved one that's been murdered. And maybe the person resposible should feel the same...no relief.

Execution by the state was always contemplated, and mandated, in the Old Testament. This doesn't contradict the commandment re killing because the state had the right to create and apply consequences to those who chose to kill.

As one who regularly contemplates great evil in my chosen profession, i am in favor of the death penalty.

I do not, however, support the manner in which it is currently administered.

I understand where you're coming from, Under74.....but.....problem is that people like Charles Manson, et al, feel absolutely NO remorse and no real emotions and will find ways to continue their "agendas for pleasure" found in violence against their fellow inmates......and so their chosen life style continues at the expense of the taxpayers.
