A kind, young MS at our KH here in CT took a couple of unbaptised publishers, including my son, on a Bethel tour many years ago. When the son got home, he was all excited.........about the fake Rolex watch he bought off a street vendor for $10.00. The crazy drive into the city got a few raves too. The Bethel tour hardly got a mention.

I was soooo disappointed as I thought all he'd need was to be exposed to the holy spirit-charged air of Bethel to cause him to want to become a Bethelite himself. All he said about it was that it was way strict and not for him. Smart kid.

Good he saw that first hand and not the Organization Behind the Name video, man that was slanted to make kids want to go to bethel, at least in my opinion. I don't know. I remember always saying that is what I wanted to do when I was a kid until I realized that they weren't about to take a single sister. I always thought that was discrimination. My mother had some sort of explation on it, I forget exactly what it was.

thanks everyone for sharing stories and Richie Rich -- I looked at all of your links on your trip to bethel in april and I was howling!! thanks for the laughs -- happy to know you made it there and back intact. your pics of stanely theater brought back memories -- I remember thinking it was pretty opulent when I saw it and wondering why all the kh's had to be so ugly and bland.

I remember a couple of years ago that the bethel trip was taking place in our congregation. At the time, we were pretty strapped for cash because the ceiling in one part of our house was caving in. Anyway, one of my witness friends told me that the congregation was putting money together to take us to bethel with us (keep in mind we didnt ask for it or tell anyone that we werent going because our ceiling was caving in). Anyway, i never heard ofthis plan again.

Its great to know that people care.

Yeah, I went on a bus trip to bethel in the late 80’s. I was pretty young and I can remember being excited by the fact that I could possibly see some of the sites of the city. I was hoping to get a glimpse of the statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center. Of course I didn't get to see anything that the WTBS didn't deem approiate for the R&F including all of the above sites.

Yeah I went in the mid 70s. I was in awe, then again I was 12.

You could not pay me enough money to go on one of those tours. Oh, they tried to get me to go many times, but I had heard too many stories on how BORING it was!!! I've been to NY a number of times and toured Bethel, had family and friends there, and that was sort of o.k. I felt sorry for all the robots!!! Now the plays and shopping and sight-seeing that was FUN!!!
