When I was baptized (November 24, 1973) I was told to remember the date because that was the date that I was ordained as a minister. I think it was a few years later they stopped saying that.
As to draft-dodging:

Throughout the war America's trumpet sounded an indistinct call. The system was rigged to keep the children of the priviledged from getting drafted. Like almost all of my classmates I went off to college with one main goal, keeping my II-S deferment for as long as possible. By the time I graduated the war was winding down and they didn't want me.
