Okay, I know that in our world technologies come and go, and those who come are knowcked immediately by the next best thing, but check out today's Google logo:

    www.google.com

It is in Braille letters, and if you click on it you get articles about Braille. I think this company kicks serious ass for being willing to change their site logo to educate people more.

Props to GOOGLE! Just wanted to express the depth of my appreciation to them for broadening horizons one mind at a time.

I too am impressed!!! My grandmother is blind, and reads braille. I am so excited!!!! She can now be able to go on the computer and internet. I can't believe this has come about in her lifetime. The thought of getting emails from her, I am speechless!! She collects several things, now she can go on EBAY herself and shop!!!! YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Auld Soul !!! I'm going to call her right now, with the news!!

No I am serious. She has never seen anything in her life. She was born without the periodontic nerve, necessary for the gift of sight.

Why she collects things, I don't know. I guess she likes the way they feel, when she runs her delicate fingers over them. But DON'T feel sorry for her. She has more energy and knowledge than 100 people. That is why I am so excited about this. I just wish she was younger, so she would be around to enjoy it for more years. To think, in the next few weeks, I will be able to communicate with her!!! And I will have to warn her about spam, and PORN sites, I can't wait!!!

She isn't at answering her phone right now, She is going to be sooo excited. HL I feel almost giddy!!!!!

sooo...okay...sorry if this is a stupid question...but do you have to have a special printer and print the stuff out in braile? or does it run some software and the stuff get read outloud for the blind person?

People who are blind have to use "readers" to surf the net, software that reads the page to them. I have a few blind friends that use them. That's why I always link to something other than "click here" when I create a Web page, because the readers read the links off first. It is maddening to have a site read to you that says "click here" forty times before it even starts reading the page.

Obviously I'm missing something here. The only links I saw were related to Louis Braille because it's his birthdate. There are some talk-to-text programs out there that make it possible for blind users to get newsfeeds and use email. (Just think how maddening it must be to have to listen to Indonesian spam...) But I didn't see anything about new innovations to make the 'net fully functional for braille users...
Horrible, I really thought you were joking about this. Do you have a link to what you found?

Ummm, horrible life, unless screens start growing bumps, your mom is not going to be able to read the braille on the screen...
