  At one of my previous contract jobs the lead software developer was classified as "profoundly blind". Basically he did not even have light perception, yet he was able to write complex software for the JC Pennies chain.

  He did it by using a Braille reader that was placed either above or below his keyboard. Using this reader he could read one line of text at a time and used his keyboard to navigate around the screen... even though he could not actually "see" the screen.

  If I were to have gone blind I would have retired on disability.

  I couldn’t get hold of my grandma, to tell her the news. I called my sister to see if she knew where she was. I kinda got scared. But all is well. The weather was so nice, that her and some friends went to play a little tennis.

  

  She was born without the periodontic nerve, necessary for the gift of sight.

  I recently learned if you text message google (in the USA) with a zip code and movie name it texts you back the theatres and times.

  It's great that google thinks about those fellow humans with serious physical disabilities such as blindness. They also need to share in enjoying life.

  There is also something called refreshable Braille. It is a machine that reads what is on the screen and converts it to a Braille machine that raises and lowers dots for a Braille reader to feel. There are many wonderful things for a person who is blind or low vision who are Braille readers. Also, JAWS is a program that reads the screen for those who although Blind have hearing.

  Periodontic nerve? As in root canal? I am fascinated, I had NO IDEA that had anything to do with eyesight! HL, how does that work?
