Got braces?

Well I'm finally doing it. I'm getting braces again. Back when I was quite younger, I had removable braces. But after growing up more, my wisdom teeth started to take over and have some fun. I had one wisdom tooth that came in sideways which began to push my other teeth which then caused crowding on the front of my bottom arch. My top arch is pretty good. Those wisdom teeth are now gone.

I wanted to get the Invisalign's, but with my crowding they couldn't do it. So I opted for the "clear" version, or the ceramics. They only put the ceramics on the front teeth but still use the metal bonds on the sides and rear(you don't really see the metal mouth - only the wire going around the front).

Has anyone else in their 30's or later got braces? Did it take a full two years for treatment? My teeth are not that bad, so I can't imagine that it would take that long. The top arch will not take that long at all, only the bottom arch will take some time. I did the impressions, photos, x'rays, and records yesterday, but since I will not be in town for the next few weeks, I won't get them on until Feb. 14th. I'm actually excited to get them done!

My husband needs braces and he is in his mid forties. The orthodontist told him it would help his TMJ. He is thinking about it. wanna

i had braces/retainer as a kid, done poorly.

At 28, i did it again, cuz my teeth were moving and causing jaw issues.

I tried linguals first (behind the teeth), then switched to clear on front. it wasnt so bad...

The linguals made me talk funny, tho, especially when they were tightened.

I still have an overbite, but otherwise i have straight, pearly whites

Take care of you teeth while in braces, otherwise they stain easily...

I'm glad i did it; it was worth the hassle and bucks.

I have them on now. It will be 2 years the end of February that they've been on.

I couldn't get Invisalign because I didn't have the $2000 deposit at that time, nor did I want to postpone treatment. So, I opted for the ceramics. Jourles, most people don't even notice them.

Alright, so I'm still in my 20's! It will take the 2 full years and maybe more! At my last appt a couple weeks ago, I asked my ortho how much longer since it will be 2 years next month already. I was so excited, thinking I could see my teeth again. His reply: "You have less than 6 months." Ok, so, I've waited this long (which has actually flown by), I can wait a few more months...really. Put in your mind that it will take 6-12 months more!
My teeth were not bad at all. The bottom were crowded and I had an overbite on top. People thought I was nuts for even getting them. Within 6 months, though, the top were in the proper place. It felt amazing. The bottom arch is taking a while. They are not at all crooked; they're fine, in fact. But, the alignment of the center teeth top and bottom is a long process.
You should be excited...you've got a perfect smile to look forward to!

The orthodontist told him it would help his TMJ.

This is what made me finally get them. The pain and locking was too much to contend with. The TMJ went away in 6-7 months. I can't tell you what a relief this has been to me!

I brush/floss after meals, use a super-flouride mouthwash that's $13 a bottle, and see the dentist regularly. But, due to my 3-5 cups of coffee-a day habit, I fully intend to dish out hundreds on a laser whitening in the dentist's office the day they are removed or soon after.

My words of advice: If/when you get bands, wear them every second you're supposed to. Always do as he/she instructs.Once they are off and whitened, I will post my full-smile pic for once.

I've had a severe overbite since childhood, and was supposed to get braces then (late 60s). Instead, my parents opted to have four teeth pulled to relieve the overcrowding, and "wait until after Armageddon" for Jehovah to make my teeth perfect. Yeah, right. Of course, Armageddon was supposed to come before I finished high school, so I guess it seemed like a sure thing.

The resulting drift made the overbite even worse, and I have TMJ so bad that when I laugh, eat or yawn, you can hear my jaw pop from across the room.

I have an appointment with the orthodontist for the first week in February. I've finally got dental insurance that will cover part of the cost and am making enough money to afford the rest. I'm hoping for the no-see-um kind, but don't really care at this point. I'm just hoping to get to fifty with a mouth that doesn't hurt any more.

I thought about billing my parents, but since they're in failing health with no retirement (because they were never going to get old and sick in this system), it's pretty pointless.

Jankyn, soon to have nice teeth class

Yes, I got them at an older age and dont regret it at all. It was one of the first things I did when I realized that I would probably be around for a while and the End was not right around the corner.

The time went by faster than than I expected.

I got used to them after a while...

The fact that I was taking care of myself, I think the perception was that I was conscious and cared about my appearance.

Never got the feeling that I came across as nerdy...when you're older, it seems to mean something different and didnt seem to hurt in the looks/attractiveness dept. as much as I imagined it would...at least that was my experience (or what I wanted to believe anyway)

    Do it, you'll be fine.

I want them too. My dentist told me I have really nice teeth, but I have space on the sides. Thank god the spaces arent in the front. Guess it didnt help that I had a baby tooth till I was 23 ! How much do the clear ones cost these days. Or the invisiline?

I had only one tooth that came out slanted, the other teeth were OK including the wisdom teeth so I never had braces.

I think it varies by patient and doctor.

Mine are around $6,000, and invisalign was only $400 more.
