Holy crap, 6000? Does insurance cover any of it? I know its probably worth it, but dang! (no wonder so many have crooked teeth)
Got braces?

My orthodontist charges $6400 for both upper and lower Invisalign, or $5100 for just one arch. Standard adult braces(full metal) costs $4795 with the ceramics costing $500 more(purely aesthetic). Luckily, my dental insurance (Aetna) covers $2000 lifetime up to 50%. When I went back for the records part yesterday, they dropped the price due to my insurance company expecting the procedure to cost only $3700(in their view). Which now means that Aetna will pay 50% of the $3800 price. The ortho basically eats the $1000 difference between their advertised cost and what the insurance company expects it to cost. I only have to pay $1800 and change out of pocket for the entire thing.
When I was first poking around to see what the costs were, I was getting worried because many dental insurance companies have a maximum age limit for getting braces. Even Aetna had an age cutoff when I was browsing across info from the web. But then I emailed them and they replied saying there was no age limit on my particular plan.
What makes it even a little cheaper is that I set aside a few thousand dollars for my flexible spending account. Ortho is allowed to be paid from an FSA. So the $1800 that I will be paying is from pre-tax dollars. Even better.

I have Aetna, too. They agreed to pay $2000 of it, which is good. Most won't even pay anything toward adult braces. I also have an FSA with my job.

I am getting braces in my early 40's. Having them put on next month. My insurance is paying for most of it...
