  Your statement makes it obvious that you have decided the Bible is god's word. Why?

  I haven't decided that. i dont know if the bible is God's word or not. i dont know enough abt it to decide. but i wonder if there is a God why he doesnt prove he is there, so there is no doubt in anyones mind that he exists. at least then people could make a choice from fact.

  If there actually was a supreme god in the universe, why assume it would be so vain, arrogant and insecure to require or even want the "service" of mere mortals such as ourselves?

  If this god actually possessed any intelligence, it would be beyond weak human desires and insecurities, and would sure as hell not be the vengeful, immature tribal deity depicted in the bible.

  Most importantly, it surely would not have "designed" such hopelessly flawed biological organisms and systems that presently exist on our planet.

  What i meant was if God appeared and the whole world knew he existed, then he said 'well this is what i want you to do and how i want you to live.....' would you do it. my mum is jw and she serves him, or thinks she does but i dont think i could serve god without proof he was there

  I haven't read all the other posts to this but this is my thought and sorry if someone else used this example:

  Let's say you didn't know your natural father. You live your whole life not knowing who is, where he is or even if he's alive. Then one day he shows up and says, "Luke, I am your father". Even if you accept the fact that he is your father, even if you accept him into your life and establish a relationship with him, it's not the same. He was not there your entire life growing up. He wasn't there to guide you, help you, encourage you. You may still recognize that your father does exist, he is alive but you're not going to have the feelings for him as would someone who grew up with their father and was raised by him.

  If God were to show up now it would actually rasie more questions than answer. Where ya been? Why'd you let shit happen? By the way, who's right? Muslims or Christians? You gonna kill everyone who chose (or who were born into) the wrong religion?

  Hard to say. Like tetra mentioned earlier, he'd have a lot of explaining to do. But one of the theists' arguments for god is that he DOES have a good reason for all the stuff he's done and failed to do, we just don't know what it is. I reject that, but that doesn't mean I'm right.

  If I'm wrong, and in proving his existence, he also revealed these wonderful, unarguable reasons for everything, then maybe I could see serving him.

  Of course, if I received proof of the existence of garden gnomes and they had lots to offer in exchange for worship, I might be able to strike a deal with them, too.

  Does that make me a worship-whore? Or a worship-bum?

  I would need extraordinary evidence. I would try to do anything he asked. I tend to be polite to everyone. I pay my taxes and obey governmental laws so why wouldn't I do what the ultimate authority tells me.

  I do believe in a god, but I really dont want to serve him.

  Ive had a gutful to be honest. Ive overdosed on it, and I really really would hate to have to go back to anything that smacked of worship or religion ever again.

  Maybe if he'd been a bit cleverer the first time and not made it such a totally crap experience I might have a couple of ounces of worship left in me. But no, the Witlesses bled me dry. Now im teetotal when it comes to god stuff.

  As has been stated the title of "God", is extremely ambiguous. If however, hypothetically, the god presented within the pages of the Bible proved to be true (and I have no doubt it is not at all true), I would rather die than serve something so murderously vile; and I'm sure he would be delighted to execute my wishes.

  If god exists, it's bigger than we can imagine, so big we are probably part of it, not divine, but mundane yet still awesome, a new meaning for an old word and far more wonderful than primative supersticion.

  There is wisdom in your words. Your lucid reasoning that if there is a God, it must be so vast as to be in some way all-embracing, gives reason and motivation to investigate into our intimate sense of being and existence to see what treasure may be found there.
