To what degree does the Watchtower want every member to think alike?

They will tell you what music you shouldn't listen to, what movies to avoid, places not to go to, tell you not to vote, and which poeple to shun. etc....

I wonder if we can have a favourite color, or would this be a form of idolatry?

Blacks not allowed as its associated with Satanists and pink for brothers is definitely out.

Every cult insists and demands unity. In mind, spirit, action, and feeling. There is no room for individual differences.

Maybe one reason why I quit being a JW, was because I felt the "need" to be different....to be "ME" !!!

I think every healthy person has a need to discover who "I" am. When that is denied the person becomes a shell, mindlessly regurgitating what others say is truth instead of learning their own truth

I struggled with this for years and rebelled as much as I could and still get away with it. I had my hair crew cut when it was associated with skinheads, I was stopped from going on the service till it grew back, got my forearm tattooed and when the fuss died down got my upper arms done, went to meetings with stubble and claimed i worked to hard to find the time to shave and asked if they would rather not have me go to the meetings than turn up with stubble. I didn't want to look like a plastic shop room dummy.

Hi JH....I think the JW colour is 'pooh brown' isn't it??

I agree with LadyLee - it is the cult mentality.

They wanted us to think so much alike that we were encouraged to only associate with 'like minded ones'. We all knew who the 'weak' ones were, so we didn't want to be seen 'hanging out' with them, god no....We were told who to associate with internally.

I was such a pathetic loser and so judgemental.....thank goodness I'm none of those things now *cough*

Just before I left the jws, I went to a convention and that guy from the gb, jaratz(?) said,

Bros and sis independent thinking leads to death. Look at the birds flying in formation. That don't think, they just act.

He was basically saying we, the gb will do the thinking for you and don't question it, it is for your own good.

I looked at my wife and our jaws dropped...
