So here is an update from a previous thread I posted about my parents, especially my mother.
Last night, my husband and I were eating dinner at my parents house and all of sudden my mom whips out her Bible and tells us to sit down because she wants to share some scriptures she’s been researching. Come to find out about a month ago some elders stopped over at their house to talk to them about us, and how to deal with a disfellowshiped person. The funny thing is, my husband and I aren’t even disfellowshipped….YET. Just a few weeks ago we received a letter stating that there is a judicial committee formed regarding my husband, so they were preparing my parents ahead of time, even before alerting us of this…. SICK!
Anyways…. My mom proceeds to share with us about 6 scriptures regarding why she feels if we DO get Disfellowshipped or Disassociate, she can still speak to and associate with us. That is following her conscience and showing Love. Both my husband and I were shocked, and needless to say very pleased. . I did have to add, that I thought it was pretty sad that my own mother would have to come up with a reason to speak to her child and need to explain this to someone else. However it’s great to see she’s thinking on her own and seeing even in little ways how this religion is unloving and unchristian.

( I'm not sure why this all didn't fit in the first post?????)
We got to talking about organized religion in general, and my dad pipes in and says, Maybe “Mr and Mrs Schne” are ahead of us in the fact that they don’t need organized religion to serve God…. My mom just shook her head in agreement, but then of course added “I won’t leave this religion; I’m not going to throw the baby out with the bath water!” My husband and I both agreed that if she’s even questioning things like this, and reading the BIBLE for what it REALLY is, going above and beyond the Watchtower, it’ll only be a matter of time.
I think we are making progress.

Great news schne. Could you share some of the scriptures with us that she used to justify talking and spending time with D/F'd people. Did they come from the elders?

That's great for you! And for your mom!
Would you be willing to share her reasoning on it? Perhaps I can pass it along to my in-law's and get them to let back into their lives.
Thanks!

Wow! Most of the time when you get that "sit down we need to talk" thing, esPECIALLY if they bring out the bible, its almost never good news! Good for your mom thinking outside of the party-line. I do hope that if it comes down to the DF that she will be discreet. They have been known to DF for associating with DF, look at Franz.

Hey babe, glad to hear that. You should print out the part from the elders handbook that says you can associate with family as long as you dont talk about the truth, or they dont condone what wrong doing went on!

Here are the main scriptures that my mom is basing her decision on.
John 13:35 -By this all will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. reasoning that shunning is unloving
1 Corinthians 10:29- the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience? reasoning that everyone conscience is different and if her's allows her to talk to a DF'd person, people should respect that.
Matthew 7:1-Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
1 Tim 2:3-4 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Luke 7:36-39 referring to the pharisees who wouldn't eat with a sinner, but Jesus did.
1 Peter 2:12 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 John 4:1 1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world

Interesting mix! Sounds like your mom loves God and the Bible more than she loves the Watchtower. Sweet!

Would this weekend be a good time to invite your parents over to have dinner with us?
