It pains me to see all these topics trying to figure out whether a God exists or not.
It is not possible to figure it out. It's like taking chicken soup when one is sick: Hey! It won't hurt you!

I think this is the greatest mystery that humanity will never solve.

That's a nice thought, Farkel.

What about the 19 people that steered airplanes in the WTC and Pentagon on 9-11? Their belief in God killed 3,000 people.
What about the millions killed in religious wars (crusades, inquistions, etc)?
What about the hundreds of Witnesses sacrifced to Jehovah over blood?
monotheism has been the leading cause of death throughout history.
You must be joking.

Silent,
Your reasoning is like saying people should all get rid of their butcher knives in our kitchen drawers because thousands of people have been stabbed by butcher knives.
Yes, many bad things have been done in gods name but that does not make believing in god dangerous. I've read the bible many times over and never wanted to kill anyone.

It's not believing in God that is dangeous but believing he has prophets on earth that speaks for him and following their leadership that causes so much trouble.

How many 'millions' over the last, say, 2000 years (if just tracking Christians, say, as you seem to be doing)?
And may I ask, how many millions were killed by non-religious atheists in the last 90 years? Let's say, 1917 to the present?
If you knew the answers to both these questions, you wouldn't have posted your post.
The issue is of human nature, not religion of itself. People are able to turn even a bad belief to its best side, and they can turn a good belief to distortion. It's a human nature thing, and blaming the practice of religion as the root cause is just like blaming science for all the evil in this world (nuclear and biological weapons, etc. is directly traced to science, right?). Rid the world of science, and all our problems will be largely solved!
Religious thought and science can ennoble people. They can also be grossly abused by people. It's the individual person who can choose to do (or resist) evil who is ultimately responsible, I think.

Farkel, If it pains you, and you know where you stand on this, how does it pain you?

Farkel,
I enjoyed watching your recent explanation that God cannot be proven to exist from inside a perceptual construct that does not allow for the existence of God. I have been making the same argument since I arrived here.
Until the Scientific Method changes God can never be proven to exist. I don't believe that method of discovery will change in my lifetime.
