Yeah, Ha! College for 5fth graders! Ok, I'll admit they do have *some* articles of interests, but you'll never learn about really interesting or challenging stuff in a Awake magazine, you'll never learn to think for yourself, to doubt, to examine *every* angle of a subject.

I don't know....do colleges have a course on the wonders of Coffee Beans now?lol

The problem with the Awake! isn't so much the content, but rather the utter failure to cultivate critical thinking skills. To the JWs, critical thinking is BAD. A real education by the world's stanards teaches you how to carefully weigh and analyze arguments and information. It teaches the scientific method. No matter how much raw information is in the literature (and I DO think a bright person can pick up a lot reading the literature and preparing parts, esp. if you're a man with the possibility of being an elder) a JW "education" will always be the oposite of a true education. It closes your mind to rational , critical thought rather than opening it.

"These journals help you to keep up with world events...." Well, so do Time Magazine and Newsweek, but I have a newsflash for "Awake" Magazine: You have been replaced by the (gasp) internet! Yes, nobody needs to wait a month for your new issue to find out what's going on in the world, we can log on to Yahoo or any home page and have it all at our fingertips, minutes after it happens, complete with photos! So, this artificially created need to read your latest "Awake" is a thing of the past. Oh, and did I mention... no need to spend years getting that college education by reading fluffy magazines. Now we attend college online and can get a real degree in a short time!

Reading an awake is like trying to get a 4 year college education by only reading Cliff Notes...no wait Cliff Notes are way better!! lmao!

The correct answer is "the number of Awakes you can read during the four years you are in college. After all you need some light reading don't you?

Nicely said, Voltaire. Nice to see you.

I would say -0- but Voltaire hit the nail on the head. I don't like the fact that their publications don't list the author(s), woops I forget, their publications are faxed to the printing rooms directly from heaven.

Before the internet the society's articles were really hard to research. I love Google. I can take a phrase and possiblly find the source. I really believe the reason why they dont state the sources is they dont want the rank and file to do any real research. The rank and file is supposed to take their word for truth, so why leave anything to chance?

Many times people honestly mistake me for a college graduate, and when I confess that I have never darkened the doors of a college, they are surprised. But I say: ‘No, I am only an avid reader of the Watchtower and Awake! journals.’"

I have never mistaken a window cleaning or floor polishing JW for a college grad.
