Do you fall back to blaming the "Wicked Sytem of Things" for everything?

As witnesses it was the 'catch all' phrase. We blamed illness, crime, economic probs, job issues, marital probs, and whatever else came down the pike as the fault of the wicked old system.

Recently a former friend of us, a long time witness had a stroke. When I heard of it I thought about how all those in the hall will be saying that over and over this week.

There was just never any reason on why things really happened. If it is bad - it is always the 'wicked old system'

    Greetings AK - Jeff,

You're right on the money! They use that repetitive quote relentlessly, to justify what has been pounded down into their head over & over again. "The bad bad wicked system of things".

Towards the end of my attending meetings, I use to throw some of the matriarchal watchtower hens a "curve-ball". I 'd go to the hall, or at some of the congo party's and tell them, based on the electronic equipment (computers, cell phones, etc) that were and continue to be invented, that wow isn't it a great time to be alive?. They'd look at you cockeyed. Or they'd cock their heads puzzled like a dog does when you tell them something he/she does not understand. That was fun.

No, I do now blame Satan for everything

    no.

it's a cliche, but "it just is the way it is." -- this universe. no need to blame yourself, or the institutions of humanity. we're all just guessing as we go along. no one has the answers. not even Terry or that Eckhart Tolle guy.

    nope.

sometimes that sucks - not being able to use that excuse anymore. I've had my mind drift back to the thought once or twice and then realize I can't use that reasoning anymore.

Satan's a really handy scape-goat - part of 'The Blame Game' that started aeons ago. Yeah, it is pretty cliche` - the end-all answer to all of life's woes. But I blame the never-ending bad choices of people for the way the world's going down. "Man dominating man..." Circumstances play a part, but really... we all stand alone with our own choices, even though the playing field is never level. And we now have to suffer from an accumulation of others' past bad choices. Things are tough all over. (another cliche`.)

What if the Kingdom, on a spiritual level, is available now to anyone who wants it? Now that's a new and exciting thought - we don't have to wait(look forward to? Eeeshh!) for the destruction of some physical 'system' - it's an entirely different plane. I'm seriously looking into that.

It took me awhile to get past the wicked system of things as a reason for sad things happening to people.

One of the things that helped me get out of that mode was one time at a UU church, not that long ago really, the Reverand was answering questions about the church.

One question was, how do you explain the bad or sad things that happen in the world?

    He put it like this:

    bad luck.

I try to hold myself responsible for everything that happens to me. Though acidents happen i think it's a healthier mindset.

no, my philosophy doesn't really consider evil and wicked to be real.

there is an ongoing cause and effect that makes things happen, not mysterious forces like evil, good or wicked

I had 2 witnesses, explain to me yesterday...That the tree in eden was like a mother who made two cakes, one for the children, one for some guests. the children were at fault for eating it and disobeying the mother while she was gone. EVEN though the oldest child is the one who convinced them eating part of the cake was ok. If you punish and kill the babies from eating from it, are they ever going to know why you punished and killed them? Shouldn't the oldest child who misled them bear the brunt if not all all the responsibility for the babies "sin"?

They did NOT want to hear this...and insisted the babies should be punished too, but could offer no explanation on how or why they felt this way. I hope Jehovah does not feel this way, and they are truly "false prophets", as they are bearing witness against THEMSELVES as well!

Is this not a "self destructive" path and "belief"?
