Yes - it isn't something literal
He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, spiritual and not literal. His praise is not from men but from God.
We know that the law is spiritual

I think if a person is really sorry for anything that they do they are forgiven
It just shows that if he were to appear in the hall and rebuke the elder body, they would'nt believe that it was him, lable him 'postate and usher him out the hall. How far away they have strayed from "the way"?

Yes, it was probably poorly translated as a lot of the Bible has been down to our day.
