The study also revealed a much higher level of education among Jehovah's Witnesses (when compared with that of the average Muscovite),
--------------------------------------
That's interesting becuase in the US, the Witnesses are among the LEAST educated among the 30 largest religious groups (only 5% have a 4 yr degree). Study has appeared here before.
jgnat, great stuff!

"It has been said that by reading the Watchtower and Awake magazines, along with other publications of Jehovah's Witnesses, a person will receive, over a period of years, a considerable and broad education." - Watchtower 06/15/83 p31
It was about this time where the wife starting putting "WT Theocratic Ministry School" in the educational section on resumes and job applications thinking this would garner her some kind of advantage in her job search; and was pissed when she started asking questions about getting her MBA online because they declared her not good enough.
I don't think to this day she realizes how much of a fool she made of herself.

95stormfront, no offence but what you said cracks me up! That is just to funny. Does anybody else know of people putting Watchtower stuff on their job resumes?

I like how they say they don't want to ignore the self-made man's contribution to society.
we do not ignore the benefits society has received from men such as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, who had little or no formal education.
and then two paragraphs later point out that most people attend college for monetary security or gain.
As if Edison and Ford gave it all away to charity, LOL~

These perceptions are usually perpetuated by elders/CO's during friendly chat or from the platform. I wrote about an experience with the 10% myth I had with our CO a few years ago.

Trying to disprove evolution by arguing that humans never use the full capacity of our brains within our given lifetime runs into complications when we realize that the same holds true to many animals such as whales, chimps, and dolphins........... Well, maybe they have a hope of life everlasting as well.

We do not condemn the so-called higher education
This is off topic, but didya notice this little gem? They are so masterful at pretending to say something is ok and insulting it at the same time! They love the word "so-called" to use for that purpose--you will find the term "so-called Christians" often in the litter-ature.
Here, I'm going to try it. "I don't condemn JWs, the so-called true religion." I wonder how they like that?

Well, as most Awake articles seem to discuss topics like "how chocolate is made" or the "fascinating life of the corn beetle",or for the younger crowd "how slow dancing leads to fornication",,, it is easy to see why most Dubs need only 10% of the their brains to absorb the mundane stuff the WT spits out.
Youse guys are killing me tonight!

"We agree that there are many benefits to be gained from increased knowledge that institutions of higher learning can dispense. At the same time, we do not ignore the benefits society has received from men such as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, who had little or no formal education. We do not condemn the so-called higher education as such and reaffirm what we have stated before, that going to college is an individual matter. At the same time, we feel compelled to point out the hazards of the college environment.
First, although there may be exceptions, the thrust of college education is generally against faith in God and in favor of humanist philosophies.
Second, college education usually puts the emphasis on getting ahead in the world and attaining material success, contrary to the advice of Jesus and the apostle John.—Matthew 6:19-21, 25-34; 1 John 2:15, 16.
Third, the usual college environment fosters a spirit of independence and permissiveness, resulting in sexual immorality and drug misuse that may be difficult for many young people to resist. We encourage young people to continue acquiring knowledge, especially that found in the Bible because it leads to gaining everlasting life. (John 17:3) We also encourage them to cultivate the skills necessary to lead a useful, productive life with the emphasis on Jesus’ words at Matthew 6:33, to keep seeking first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness.
And fourth, the time is short. (Luke 21:34-36; Ephesians 5:15, 16) It can be spent most profitably in serving our Creator.—ED." -

As psychologist Peter Russell wrote in The Brain Book: "Within our own heads lies one of the most complex systems in the known universe. . . . No human being has ever come anywhere near to using its full potential." In a limited life span of maybe 70 or 80 years, the brain’s potential remains virtually untapped. As Russell says: "It is frequently stated that we use only 10 percent of our full mental potential. This, it now appears, is rather an overestimate. We probably do not use even 1 percent—more likely 0.1 percent or less." Imagine what the human brain will be capable of in Paradise without the pressures of sickness and aging! --w83 11/15
