i'm not sure whether there is a god or not.
so far as i can tell, there isn't much evidence to support his existence...
but sometimes i find myself in what appears to be a prayer.
note: as a jdub, i never used to pray in the conventional way
"through jesus..." i mostly had long rambles and conversation with god.
so, do you ever find yourself praying?
you don't believe in god... ever find yourself praying?

I believe in God but I don't pray since I believe this is unnecessary because God already knows what we need and how to guide us.

Never. I've just never had that religious "something" that most people seem to have.
To be honest, when I was a JW and having to give prayers at meetings and such, I found the act to be very annoying. I always hated the way my parents would "remind" me to say my little prayer before eating... I always forgot because praying is something I never even think about about unless someone brings up the topic.
Every time my family would pile into the car for a long cross country trip my dad would say a prayer asking for gawd to protect us during the long drive. I always found that to be very annoying.

I always wonder about ardent athiests... or agnostics that consider the existence of God to be unknowable, and therefore not worth pondering....
What happens when you lose all your illusion of control and power that you think you have over your life. What happens when you are desperate, when you have nowhere else you can turn? Do you cry out to Darwin or Marx?
Don't get me wrong. I am not making fun. I just remember when I was one of the above. It was real easy to be incredulous when things were going good. When things weren't so good I was more than ready to abandon my faith in no God.
Doesn't prove anything of course... I don't mean to imply it does.

Personally, I pray to my Goddess. I also do alot of meditation and spend alot of time outside in nature to find my own connection. When I was forced to pray to Jehovah, I'd look around the congregation and think what a "bunch of crap"!!!

Rather than wasting time talking to an imaginary tribal deity dreamed up by wandering nomads in the desert 5000 years ago, I go out for a nice evening with friends to a wine bar for some cabernet, good music and excellent conversation.
As for the concept of prayer, I find you get a more stimulating interaction with an automated bank machine and at the end of the transaction, instead of being ignored, you get some cash!

i think prayer is more like a talk with your subconscious... it feels good to feel like someone is listening, even if it is just you... and subconsciously, you start to act on what you pray about!!! yeah, i chat with my subconscious all the time.. i dont address it with a name though, i just kinda talk.. makes me feel better sometimes

On the contrary I've never thought of myself, or anyone else, as being "in control". At the end of the day Entropy rules.
I've always viewed life with the metaphor of me floating down a river. I can't stop the river or control it. Sometimes the river is calm and sometimes it is rough rapids. The most I can do is look ahead watching for rocks and swim to the left and to the right as best I can. You're invited to join us and grab a beer and an inner-tube.... relax and enjoy the water and the sun on your face while you can. Sure, sometimes things get ruff and difficult... but all in all life is good. (So long as you don't get splattered against a bolder )

The best way I can explain it is, remember being a little kid and having a favourite toy you played with constantly? Finally you get bored with it, lose interest, move onto bigger and better things, in short, get on with your life? God was a toy I used to play with as a child, it was amusing for awhile, I now have far more important issues to deal with in my life.
