Can a witness get disfellowshipped for getting a tattoo?

I'm waiting for the endless parade of chicks with Tramp Stamps to put on a few years and/or kids. Stretch marks should really improve those upper ass tats.

    Howdy,

You may wish to look at this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/107298/1.ashx

You may also want to see my first post in the thread. Some suggested that it is a conscience matter but I believe that that interpretation is incorrect.

The Society uses its usual circumlocution to express its denigration of tattoos without directly stating that tattoos are unfit for "true Christians" since it doesn't want to seem overbearing in such a scripturally vacuous area.

For all intents and purposes tattoos are still socially disapproved among Witnesses and one who got one while an active Witness would probably be subject to the same level of treatment and punishment as one who grew a beard/goatee, died their hair purple, etc. It would probably not be a disfellowshipping situation, however, unless there were other factors involved such as the actual tattoo image being a devil or something like that or other factors involving the particulars of the elders, locale, and persons involved.

lol dvw, that's be a double whammy! i imagine it would most definitely be a case of being at least reproved for, although if you're walking on thin ice with the big boys it could be enough for them to push you out the back door I suppose...anyway, plenty of good well researched answers above! x

One of my (ex)friends whole goal in life is to be an MS. However every couple of years he gets a tattoo of a Chinese symbol on his arm, he has three now. He still gets to do the microphones and all the other laborious 'priveleges' but it is a black tick against his name in regards to being and MS or pioneer.
The whole Mosaic Law thing is unfounded, as tattoos were forbidden as it identified a person with false religious worship, something that is no longer the case.
I have a navel piercing, that got mixed reactions from the congregation. Every summer at the beach certain brothers would comment about when I was going to grow up and remove it, which was all the more reason to keep it.

"DF" I'm pretty sure a "Tramp Stamp" is a tatoo a girl gets in the small of her back. You can see them really well when a girl wears the low "hip hugger" type pants/jeans.

I too believe with "jwfacts" in how the tattoos were forbidden because of religious reasons.

I have several family members and relatives with either tatoos or navel piercings. None of whom were df'd.

The only thing I don't get is. How can they talk down about tattoos and piercings and TONS of jw women go and get BOOB JOBS??Tell me what the heck is the difference?? What is the difference between art drawn on the body and getting your boobs bigger? It doesn't make sense. But then again maybe it does because all those elder wives and the like would never stand to be told they couldn't get a boob job.LOL

    Welcome to the board Morwen.
I have never heard of a sister getting a boob job in Australia, but did hear from friends visiting Miami that many sisters had boob jobs and face lifts. What a joke, how can a tattoo be worse than that. Enlarging ones breasts can hardly be said to be modest, it screams. "look at me, look at me" and in a mans mine "come and get me, I want you to look and I am easy".
Hope that doesn't offend anyone with fake breasts, I am quite a fan.

    Thanks! jwfacts
Yes I find this funny.Ya know, if someone gets a tattoo then ooooh he/she must be on the edge. But a boob job,oh hey, that's okay! The bigger the better right? That's never considered "on the edge".
